First Day Feeding...

Yesterday I fed the cows a little hay. It has been a beautiful, mild fall, but finally has changed to more normal conditions. It has been great not having to feed until now, and hopefully we'll get a few more breaks in the weather before winter and daily feeding starts in :D .

I guess when they start begging at your door, it's time to give them a little hay :) .

I use a spinner feeder, and it works fine. I used to feed with a Deweze feeder, but it was a pain to have to hook it up every day, and it didn't feed frozen bales too well :D .

My feed crew for the day... I rotate between the three dogs since all of us in the tractor at once is rediculous to say the least :D .

A few showing up fashionably late :) .

I've got the bred heifers in with the cows.

This heifer seems to be getting her fair share of hay.

That cow was thinking "where is my comfy new cabin"? :D

As far as the Antelope go...I think they are always confused. :?

Pretty country, nice cattle, new cabin to live in, and a stackyard right close. How can a person beat a deal like that? I really like your bred coming-two-year-old heifers. They look like wonderful mommas-to-be. Thanks for the pictures.

Nice pics. We started feeding yesterday also, 2 days of cninook wind and a hard freeze turned everything to ice.
The wife can get 4 dogs in the cab, it does look rediculous.

I'm trying to get things lined up to haul cows down onto hay meadows on Friday- then if the deep snow holds off- should be able to graze into the new year...I'm going to feed about 100 head for a neighbor 4 days a week when he is working out of town- and will probably have to start feeding them next week as their groceries are getting short...

May have to start earlier as its snowing today- altho just light flurries and the weather boys are predicting no accumulation- with the heavier stuff going west of us and south of the Missouri.....

I'm thinking you've got the perfect setup...cows, dogs, hay, wildlife, and mothernature all from the view of your front door! Pretty cool...can't wait to see more photo's! thanks

Almost perfect... just need to find a handsome guy, without much baggage, and a good bank account (not for me, for him since I don't share well, especially my money  ), who doesn't mind doing a little ranch work... and then I would be set  !

Agreed... I can never figure out why they run toward your vehicle and cut across the road in front of you while driving ???

I'm sure my wife would send me along :) but then you said handsome :? and she keeps reminding me I'm to old and fat :( for anyone to like anything except my money. :???:

She started calling me fat when I owned 7 stores and I did get up to 200# (I'm 5' 10" ) but I decided she was not going to call me fat any more  and I droped to 165# and have stayed there for about 5 or 6 years :D ( now she is 4" shorter than me and is 10# hieavier  ) but she still calls me the old fat man.

I'm not stupid enough to point out to her the differance 8) but about a year ago I dressed quickly and could not figure why the butt of my jeans was baggy untill my daughter ask why I was wearing mom's jeans. Boy did I catch hell for that!

Cows look to be in fine shape. When do they start calving? We started feeding the weaned calves two days ago but the cows should make it to Christmas or later on mature grass and lic tubs if we don't get too much snow.

Thanks for the compliment :) . They've had the calves off of them since October 10, and they've had mild weather and good grass to help them gain :) .

The cows and heifers will start calving the end of February. I usually turn the bulls out for 55-60 days, but this year I couldn't find the last bull until the 70-80 day range  .
