According to media accounts, Tsarnaev and his brother, Tamerlan, were Muslims who recently gravitated to a radical strain of Islam, going so far as to post Anti-American, jihadist videos on social-media sites. Both are thought to have as-yet-unprobed ties to a radical Muslim cleric hellbent on the destruction of the American way of life.

On Thursday night, hours after the radicalized Muslims were fingered by the FBI and their images circulated around the world, they killed a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer and carjacked an SUV from a man who later escaped. The brothers led police on a chase through city streets that included a wild shootout that saw some 200 shots fired and the suspects hurling pipe bombs from the SUV. Bizarrely, police discounted earlier reports that the brothers had robbed a 7/11, saying although it had been robbed, and they had been caught on surveillance video, they were not the robbers.

The pursuit went into Watertown, where Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was shot several times in the gunfight. But Dzhokhar Tsarnaev somehow slipped away, running over his already wounded brother as he fled by car, according to two law enforcement officials who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

the brothers had already shot an officer in the gunfight..

the brother was shot.. but had run out of ammo,.. as he was walking towards the police, it became clear he had a bomb strapped to himself..
still police tackled him and were handcuffing him when his brother ran at them.. as police scrambled and his brother ran over him killing him..

the police at the gunfight were "transit police" which may explain why they were unable to take control of the scene.

I can see why the city tried to protect those around the running car battle.. but I can't understand how the feds missed their radicalization of these two... especially when they started procuring the stuff to make these numerous bombs and grenades..

The FBI interviewed suspected Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev in early 2011, it said in a statement late Friday, following a tip from a foreign government that he was “a follower of radical Islam” and was preparing to leave the United States to join underground organizations.

The FBI said its interview two years ago of Mr. Tsarnaev and his family, along with checks of travel records, Internet activity and personal associations, “did not find any terrorism activity” at the time.

well it is clear he left.. why didn't they put him on a watch list?

at least then they could have followed up when all the signs were obvious..

The revelation that the elder Tsarnaev was on U.S. law enforcement authorities’ radar screens seemed likely to raise uncomfortable questions for the Obama administration about whether it could have done anything to detect and stop the plot.

“It’s new information to me and it’s very disturbing that he’s on the FBI radar screen,” said Michael McCaul, Texas Republican Congressman and chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, said on CNN late Friday.

It is not known when the Boston Marathon bombings were planned, or whether there were clues that could have allowed authorities to pre-empt it.

National security and law enforcement authorities said on earlier Friday that they had not turned up any evidence that the Tsarnaevs had contacts with al-Qaeda or other militants overseas.

maybe next time they should actually look at his facebook postings.. :? :???:

The U.S. officials said they were leaning toward the theory that the bombings were motivated by Islamic extremism.

really? leaning.. theory... what do the two have to do... drop a bomb in a public place? to get the feds attention..

(sarcasm)

are the feds really that delusional if so why do they have guns?

The left is really busy on this case, they are still looking for the connection that it is somehow Bush's fault. Of course they already know that, they are just trying to draft a public statement

Fox News is reporting that the ACLU is protesting the arrest of the second guy because the police did not read him his Miranda rights before taking him into custody. Apparently, there is some kind of exception granted for emergency situations where public danger is involved. but there is something about only being able to question him for 48 hours before he must be offered an attorney.

How about 48 hours before they execute him?

True government leadership it's called. As for your other questions about how these guys AFTER being on the feds radar still managed to murder innocents and terrorize a major US city for a week, it's because The King told investigators to take a holiday when it came to investigating Islamic terrorists.

Please don't ask me for a link to the above assertion because I won't provide it. I did see it on C-Span though. Trust me. You know you can trust me, right?

Graham, McCain: No criminal trial for captured suspect

By Jeremy Herb and Mike Lillis - 04/20/13 12:30 PM ET

Two powerful GOP senators are calling on the Obama administration to treat the captured suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings as an “enemy combatant” and deny him counsel even though he is reportedly an American citizen.

Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, captured Friday night outside Boston after a tense daylong manhunt, should be questioned for intelligence purposes and not read his Miranda rights.

"It is clear the events we have seen over the past few days in Boston were an attempt to kill American citizens and terrorize a major American city," McCain and Graham said late Friday in a joint statement. "The accused perpetrators of these acts were not common criminals attempting to profit from a criminal enterprise, but terrorist trying to injure, maim, and kill innocent Americans."

With Tsarnaev in custody, the lawmakers said, "the last thing we should want is for him to remain silent."

"We need to know about any possible future attacks which could take additional American lives," they said. "The least of our worries is a criminal trial which will likely be held years from now."

So going after a terrorist who is an American citizen that is a danger to the country/world with a drone is a violation of the Constitution--BUT denying a terrorist who is an American Citizen in custody his rights to counsel and a trial is not :???:

That's right. And.......he needs to be measured for a waterboard that properly fits. I'll bet any one of those who lost their legs would do the pouring.

I was talking to a guy yesterday that had a good idea on what to do with terrorists. Forget waterboarding them, He figured once caught they should be immediate mandatory Organ donors. Since they did not give their victims the benefits of something for the pain, they should not have that benefit either. He figured the organs should be harvested in a way that the terrorists life is prolonged as long as possible. I suggested the Corneas should be the last harvested so the terrorist can see what happens to those evil enough to blow up innocent people.

Might as well get something useful for their worthless lifes.

if you read the post you would see that the portion you attributed to me was a quote from another source...

a source who is giving a *qualifier to his/her statements..

basically it says.. take it for what it is.. a media account.. it may be true.. or not...

A qualifier is a word or phrase that changed how absolute, certain or generalized a statement is.

a writer would use qualifiers to send signals. Also spot the qualifiers used by other people. Relative qualifiers are often signals of uncertainty
