So I can have every hinky dinky device made for the kitchen... I'm am such a dork, I can justify easy working for the outside, but why not for the kitchen.... :D  :D

We have had a Bosch on the counter top for quite a few years. It slices and dices, mixes dough, juices, blends - just a lot of things that you once had to do by hand. Grinds flour too, although we don't much anymore.

It is tough and has made no trouble at all in well over 10 years. Almost needs it own cupboard for all the attachments. Wifey just loves it!

I have a two piece food processor........a knife and a cuttin board. And it's 25 years old.

Oh Lilly you just have to have a food processor.. I got mine at the farm store. It has a chopping and a shredder blade. Less than 70 bucks. Hamilton Beach prep star is what is on the box... It's kinda tempermental about having everything just right to work, but I suppose it's a safety issue. It's put the fun back into canning for me...

I would never be without a food processor. I'm on my third now, but since I smartened up and got a really good one, I think it'll be a while before I get another. Mine's a Kitchen Aid, and since it costs a fortune, I got it with Airmiles.

It's got a smaller bowl that sits inside the big one for doing little jobs like salad dressing, and I really like that. Two sizes of shredding blades, a slicing blade, and two chopping blades.

Between the shredding blade for cheese, and the slicing blade for vegetables, you can make some amazing pizzas with it, with not a lot of effort. It'll even slice the mushrooms. Scalloped potatoes? Two minutes and you're done. :D

I think it would grind hay too, but you'd need really small bales.

So Kato, since you've went through three of them, which ones would you recommend NOT buying?
If KitchenAid is the best, what size would you recommend?
I'm thinkin' I got 94 days to buy one for the other half, but I wanna make sure I get the right one!

The best kind have the bowl sitting above the motor, so it's direct drive. My first two had the bowl sitting off to the side, and I guess they were driven by some kind of belt inside the machine. They worked well, but they wore out with heavy work, and started slipping.

Other than that, make sure it has a big bowl, and is easy to clean, and it'll be good. 8)

This thread got me thinking that my wife might want one of these things. Came out to the kitchen this morning and she was shredding away with one. :???: I asked her when she got it and she said 20 years ago. I guess I don't spend much time in the kitchen. :?

You've got a good wife if "you" don't spend enough time in the kitchen! 8)

I have a great wife that is the most awesome cook. I could only bring the level of talent down so I stay away most of the time.
