ABC News: Former ACLU Chapter President Arrested for Child Pornography

Feb. 23, 2007— Federal agents arrested Charles Rust-Tierney, the former president of the Virginia chapter of the ACLU, Friday in Arlington for allegedly possessing child pornography.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by ABC News, Rust-Tierney allegedly used his e-mail address and credit card to subscribe to and access a child pornography website.

The complaint states that federal investigations into child pornography websites revealed that "Charles Rust-Tierney has subscribed to multiple child pornography website over a period of years."

As recently as last October, the complaint alleges, "Rust-Tierney purchased access to a group of hardcore commercial child pornography websites."

Complaint Alleges Access to Graphic Material

Rust-Tierney admitted to investigators that he had downloaded videos and images from child pornography websites onto CD-ROMs, according to the complaint.

The videos described in the complaint depict graphic forcible intercourse with prepubescent females. One of the girls is described in court documents as being "seen and heard crying", another is described as being "bound by rope."

The investigation is being conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and the Arlington County Police as part of the Northern Virginia and District of Columbia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Rust-Tierney made an initial appearance in a federal court in Alexandria, VA, Friday. He is being detained pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday, February 28.

Youth Coach, Argued Against Restricting Public Internet

Rust Tierney coaches various youth sports teams in and around Arlington, Virginia, according to court documents.

In the past, Rust-Tierney had argued against restricting Internet access in public libraries in Virginia, writing, "Recognizing that individuals will continue to behave responsibly and appropriately while in the library, the default should be maximum, unrestricted access to the valuable resources of the Internet."

Calls to Rust-Tierney's home were not answered and calls to the ACLU of Virginia were not immediately returned.

Kind of explains why they would support a group like NAMBLA (North American Man-Boy Love Association)

The ACLU is defending those who abuse children while attacking those who give them moral guidance. This contrast reveals the priorities of today's ACLU.

The Manhattan-based public-interest law firm is defending the North American Man-Boy Love Association in a $200 million civil lawsuit filed by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Curley. The Curleys claim that Charles Jaynes was driven by the literature and website of NAMBLA, an outfit that advocates sex between grown men and little boys, reportedly as young as age 8.

The ACLU has offered material support to those who openly preach pedophilia and arguably encourage kidnapping, rape, and murder. Yet this legal group is energetically hostile to an organization that tries to turn boys into men, with sex alien to the process.

Since 1915, the Boy Scouts have managed land within San Diego's Balboa Park. It has built a swimming pool, a 600-seat amphitheater, and a camping facility that accommodates 300. Camp Balboa serves some 12,000 Boy Scouts annually through daylong events and weekend sleepovers. The Scouts' tie to this land is a 50-year lease offered by the San Diego City Council and signed in 1957. In exchange for their stewardship — including private investment for maintenance and development — the Scouts hand the city an annual lease payment of $1.00.

This arrangement is too much for the ACLU to swallow. It sued the City of San Diego to expel the Boy Scouts from Balboa Park. The ACLU contends that the Scouts are a religious organization and thus should be dislodged from the facility. Never mind that the Scouts did not bar other groups from using the park. In fact, according to Hans Zeiger, an 18-year-old Eagle Scout who has written about this controversy, Balboa Park hosted last summer's San Diego Gay Pride Festival

Pedophile priests and ministers don't mean all priests and ministers are pedophiles. There are sexual deviants in every line of work, including ACLU apparently. So what?

So What? Any person that harms children deserve to be brought out for all to see. To say "So What" is cold and heartless!

The case has more significant than just your average pedophile on Nightline. These people actually spend millions of money to defend and get pedophiles off of their crimes. Do you know what NAMBLA (North American Man-Boy Love Association) is? If the name does not enlighten you then maybe you should Google it!

When someone who's job is supposedly to protect individuals Civil liberties is found out to be violating these Liberties of Children then it deserves more than a "SO WHAT"

I think the last thing I would want to line myself up with is being Soft on Child Porn. But I guess you have another Take on it.

You can't be serious, R2? "So what?" Surely you didn't mean that the way it sounds.

I was hoping that you might give us some insight on this deal. I've heard that this guy's wife is also a big liberal involved in some kind of anti-death penalty wacko group. As much as you talk about snob-nobbin' with those kind of people, I figured you probably knew them or knew something about them.

This is a very, very sick and serious issue. The report I heard on the news said that even the seasoned investigators were having trouble with this case because of the little girls crying on the CD. Please tell us that you're not making light of this. I refuse to believe that you would do that...

Those who foment and promote hate crimes (Radical Muslim clerics, Nazis) or sexual crimes (NAMBLA) or other crimes (Mafia) are entitled to legal representation but not to have their criminal activities permitted because it harms individuals and society.

And we have in place a system that does give them legal representation even at no charge. The ACLU does not have to step up and defend these people to insure they get a fair trial, thousands of times a week public defenders defend would be criminals.

The ACLU is not there for public defending it is there with a Political Agenda. They pick and choose the times and causes they wish to defend because of their political views.

You could have two boys, one kicked out of school for wearing a Pro God shirt, and one kicked out for wearing a Pro Gay shirt and you can be assured that they will be all over defending that Pro Gay Shirt kid (happened 20 miles from me) but they would leave that Pro God Shirt kid to fend for himself.

Years ago ManCow a radio host gave Clinton a bunch of crap on his radio show, he blocked a highway for a hair cut as protest for Clinton blocking an airport for his hair cut. He was audited 3 times, harassed at home and work by secret service and put under investigation by the Clinton administration. They were not interested in helping him.

There has been cases were the ACLU actually sued when someone exercised free speech.

Louisiana's Mr. Cook conveniently ignored the 1st Amendment rights of a Louisiana student who prayed over a loudspeaker prior to a football game, choosing instead to sue school officials who allowed the prayer, even to the point of equating them with 9/11 terrorists. And Indiana's Quigley recently helped obtain a court injunction against the state legislature, barring prayer before legislative sessions by ministers that mentions Jesus and Christ.

The ACLU is only as good as those it chooses to defend!

You guys do not understand what I was saying -- sexual deviance is an illness of individuals and unless the employer or organization condones or covers up for the individual, they are not responsible for behavior they are unaware of and would not condone.

When a group produces literature on how to get little boys to have sex with you, and how to avoid getting arrested for it. Then that organization is part of any crime committed by those that read it. And the ACLU is just as bad in Championing this case for these NAMBLA members. They are scum, let the courts handle them.

Spend your resources to help some poor kid that just wants the freedom of speech to say a prayer before a football game, O wait they actually are against that kind of Freedom of speech. It is OK to teach how to rape boys and avoid prosecution, but God forbid you want to say a prayer before a football game.
