You have problems with this yet you sanction SNL?? Talking about two faced. Oh I forgot....they were talking about Canada.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would sanction something like this, especially while the bodies of 4 soldiers were on their way home from a war that is in all our intrests to win.
I don't think you want to start the 'two faced argument'.

As an American I apologize for these idiots. All the fox news people seem so fake to me. The men with their piled on hair gel and the women with way too much makeup. Always gives me the impression of watching a bunch of tv preachers.

I am like Mrs. Greg and can not watch it, but based on the URL address it mentions Greg Gutfeld. Greg Gutfeld is the host of a late night show on Fox News Called Red Eye. The show is more of a parody on current events it is a comedic show and not suited for children. It takes the news and makes fun of things, caters to the college crowd.

It is more like Stephen Colbert. It is not a news show!

Actually I figured you liberals would like the show, it has a pretty gay theme about it. Plus they have just as many liberal guest on it as they do conservative.

Yep- Mrs.Greg you're better off not seeing it- or you'd be pulling that smiley faced blondes hair out by the brunette roots after you'd scrubbed the floor with those guys...

I wonder what she gets paid to sit there- do the Sister Sarah beauty pageant smile- and leave the top 3 buttons on her blouse unbuttoned :???:

I never watch that show.....In between checking cows in the cold today- I've been catching parts of Kola's bull sale on Superior- and watching a callin on CSPAN about the Obama birth certificate issue- where the overall major consensus (even from the Repub site)- is its a nonissue- and is only promoted by a very small bunch of rightwingnut extremists- that need to get over it...

OT....a birth certificate is insignificant and George Bush's military records were of the utmost importance to both Al Gore and John Kerry?? How strange a shoe feels when it's on the other foot.

Very very poor taste. Having someone comment that they didn't know Canada was involved in the war with Canada having dead returned to their country. Suggesting one goes to chill in Canada if they don't want to fight. Disrespectful.

Suggesting that the perk to Canada is sharing a border with the most powerful county in the world while our economic system is in shambles. Making fun of the mounties of Canada. It's in very poor taste.

Fox host apologizes for mocking of Canadian Forces
Last Updated: Monday, March 23, 2009 | 6:09 PM ET Comments1227Recommend740CBC News
The host of an over-the-top, late-night Fox network show has apologized for disrespecting the Canadian military with a recent segment on his intentionally inflammatory program.

"The March 17th episode of Red Eye included a segment discussing Canada's plan for a 'synchronized break,' which was in no way an attempt to make light of troop efforts," host Greg Gutfeld said in a statement issued Monday.

"However, I realize that my words may have been misunderstood. It was not my intent to disrespect the brave men, women and families of the Canadian military, and for that I apologize.

In an interview with the CBC on Monday, Defence Minister Peter MacKay said he accepted the apology — pointing out it came only after his department contacted Fox demanding one earlier in the day.

MacKay called the comments "totally, totally inappropriate, ridiculous [and] demeaning."

The vast majority of Americans, from President Barack Obama on down, "have nothing but respect and admiration for the Canadian forces and their families," he said.

"I don't think we should dignify this with more commentary other than to say it's highly regrettable," he added.

"The apology at least represents some recognition of the insensitivity — and we all move on."

"Red Eye is a satirical take on the news, in which all topics are addressed in a lighthearted, humorous and ridiculous manner," he added.

Gutfeld, a former Maxim and Stuff magazine editor, hosts the cultural commentary show, which is broadcast on Fox weekdays at 3 a.m. ET.

He moderates a round table of panellists who deliver off-the-cuff musings and crack jokes about a wide range of topics from the worlds of news, entertainment and sports.
Commentators have included comedians, Fox News anchors, actors and Girls Gone Wild founder Joe Francis.

'… The Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white Capri pants.'
— Greg Gutfeld, Fox News moderatorIn a five-minute segment broadcast March 17, Gutfeld mocked the Canadian Forces, noting Lt.-Gen. Andrew Leslie's recent comment that the military may need a year to recover after Canada's mission in Afghanistan ends in 2011.

"Meaning, the Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white Capri pants," Gutfeld said.

"I didn't even know they were in the war," panellist and comedian Doug Benson added. "I thought that's where you go if you don't want to fight. Go chill in Canada."

The panellists continued by joking about soldiers needing a break for "manicures and pedicures," how Canada should be invaded and poked fun at the RCMP.

Canadian soldiers, who have been fighting in Afghanistan since 2001, have spent the last four years in the country's most violent regions. On Friday, military officials announced that four more Canadian soldiers were killed and eight others were wounded in two separate roadside bomb blasts outside Kandahar, in southern Afghanistan.

Canadians express outrage
Over the past few days, the Red Eye segment has sparked outrage from a range of Canadians, including thousands of comments on YouTube and Facebook.

"Our soldiers are dying for them and they have the audacity and the ignorance … to say something like that, it is insulting. It's the most ignorant thing I've ever heard," Sam Warren told CBC News after watching the segment.

The segment also drew criticism from Conservative author, columnist and commentator David Frum.

"The clip in question is a sequence of goofs about the feebleness, uselessness and absurdity of the Canadian armed forces. Why would I call that dumb? Here's why," Frum wrote on his New Majority.com blog last week, before listing the Canadian soldiers, aid workers and a diplomat who have been killed in Afghanistan since 2002.

"Sorry I disrespected your show, Red Eye fans, but you disrespected the dead," Frum added.

"My apologies to the Canadian military, they probably could at least beat the Belgians," Gutfeld mused in his Twitter account on Sunday.

If the host didn't get he was disrespecting the Canada military when he was doing it I highly doubt he gets it now. Seems to be a more I have to appologize for ratings then a heartfelt one.

I watch FOX News quite often but I've never seen this show. It must be aired in the dead of night. These person's abject attempt at humor, or whatever it was, clearly shows they were wearing their a$$ for a hat.

The U.S. has no better friend than Canada.

This was very distasteful and I hope the apology was nationally broadcast with heartfelt sympathy for saying it. :x But I did ask just how many in the US even know that Canada was in Afganistan fighting. This is the main problem, to many don't pay attention to what is going on beyond their own borders to see how their actions effect other countries. And some feel Canadians have no right to speak up about US political issues.

It's a late night comedy show that runs on Fox at one in the morning here and it is in no way a "news" show. It does take the headlines and comments on them but if anyone took them as a serious news source then I guess you could consider SNL a news source and NBC should be apologizing for their off color humor.

Yes Greg is on Fox Network and he stepped way over the line in his attempt of being funny. But if we shot everyone that did that Biden would be President.

I have not seen it nor will I watch the clip. There is NO NEED. Yes Canada is fighting and losing young people just like us. I posted a while back about the courage of Canadian soliders and the loss of a couple of thoses brave people. Just because a network carries some "conservitive" programing does not mean they are above reproach.
If he did appoligize then make the staement regarding Canadians beating Belgiums was proof that some people have no clue.
Just like everything else the comments of one in a group do NOT mean the rest of the group agree with the comment.

This should tell you all you need to know about the source.

IT'S NOT A NEWS SHOW! People who consider this show a source of their news probably get there primetime edition from the Colbert Report and the The Daily Show. As far as I'm concerned, we don't need shows like this for entertainment, but evidently somebody watches them.

Yes, it was in poor taste, poorly timed and a poor attempt at humor, but they weren't slamming Canadian soldiers. They were playing on General Leslie's comment about needing a year off and they did go on with some other unnecessary comments about Canada.

I will bet the first to defend anyone respectfully serving their country--American or any of our allies.

Richard, there is absolutely no rationalization for what he said, news show or otherwise. Judging by his follow up "Belgian" remarks, his "apology" obviously meant nothing and were simply poorly calculated in design to stave off further criticism. People of his mentality don't have the sensitivity to "get it" when they speak or act so offensively.

The only appropriate apology, as someone said today on the radio, is to have him write it out and sign it in his own blood, and lots of it. That would still be considered cheap compared to what it cost the U.S. in lost credibility.

I think Gutfield should think twice about setting foot within one thousand miles of the Canadian border for the rest of his life. One poster summed it up quite well with this line - "How to Lose Friends and Alienate Countries."
