Haymaker,

I am wondering how close to Fredericksburg do you live?

We enjoyed visiting the area several years ago when we drove down to see my wife's father and stepmother in Fredericksburg (he has since passed away). They were Denver, Co transplants and she still lives there. Round Mountain, TX is nearby if memory serves me correct. A. W. "the Judge", Moursund was from there and bought a lot of Nebraska ranchland in our area while he was alive. We climbed "Enchanted Rock" which was a very unique feature of your landscape. Also close by, Luckenbach, TX was made famous by Willie Nelson in the song by that name.

We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and found it a very interesting part of our country. Do you think there were as many trees in that area 150 years ago?

Sorry for the late reply JF Ranch,I live about 20 miles south of Fredericksburg, just outside of a little town called Sisterdale,it is said the TX Hill country was rolling plains 150 years ago,as you know it is alot differnt now, lots of cedar breaks and pecan, live oak..............good luck

I really like that country around Fredericksburg....It's beautiful in it's own way. The town itself....I really like goin and walkin main street. There's some really neat shops...expensive but still neat.....good places to go and "window shop" then take the ideas of things you see and go home and make them instead of payin big prices for it.

First trip I ever made to Fredericksburg....we went to the Enchanted Rock also.....stopped along the way to the "Balanced Rock" that's no longer there. I think I remember hearin a news story about kids or someone, blowin up the three lil rocks that were under it, and it rolled down the hill.
Was a neat thing to see...that's no longer there to see.
I remember sittin under the trees at the park part of Enchanted rock there by the lil creek that runs thru it. Lookin in the water, and seein what looked like gold dust. I would imagine it was probably quartz from the "big rock" but still makes ya wonder. Haymaker...is there gold in them there hills?
