USDA/APHIS has two informative bilingual publications: a calendar and a
biosecurity guide. Both are designed to help bird owners protect their
birds from diseases such as avian influenza (AI) and exotic Newcastle
disease (END).
The free calendar, entitled 2007 Backyard Biosecurity: Keeping Your
Poultry Healthy, is an essential tool for bird owners to ensure the
prevention of infectious poultry and bird diseases. It provides
information on the warning signs for spotting illness and how to report
sick birds, as well as six easy-to-follow steps for bird owners to
practice biosecurity.
The Biosecurity Guide For Poultry and Bird Owners,is designed to provide
useful information on biosecurity to keep poultry and pet birds healthy.
A DVD or VHS, also in Spanish and English, illustrating six easy steps
to practicing biosecurity is also available.
All three items are free. Bird owners may request a copy at
http://www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/birdbiosecurity/brochures.html and click on
the online order form or by calling (301) 734-7799.
