Another story from our trip to Chicago:

We were stuck in the airport so decided to have a meal. We struck up a conversation with a man at the table next to ours. He was born in Liberia, Africa. (His great-grandparents actually were slaves in America but got to return to Africa when President Monroe offered that option.) He talked about how corrupt things are in Liberia, how difficult it is to get ahead, and how eager he was to come to America. Then said, with tears in his eyes, that he never understood what freedom really felt like until he moved to America, and he rhapsodized excitedly about his new country for quite awhile.

That reminded me it is too easy for those of us born here to take our freedoms fore-granted.
