Frost Quakes?

at first when I heard them talk about it on the news I thought he said frostie flakes.. but instead it was about frost quakes.. but they were warning US because of the rain and sudden drop in temperature we may experience them... I didn't catch the whole thing

I also received an e-mail mocking ol' Al,

so I googled it..

A cryoseism, also known as an ice quake or a frost quake, [1][2] may be caused by a sudden cracking action in frozen soil or rock saturated with water or ice.

They have surfaced in Ontario and Québec. Southern Ontario experienced numerous frost quakes on December 24, 2013,[13][14] and more severe, waking a great many from sleep, on December 30, 2013 at 3:00 AM and later at 7:00 AM,[15] as a result of an ice storm on December 21–22, 2013.[16] This was the first such storm to hit since the devastating ice storm of January 1998

Vermont experienced the same phenomenon after the same weather conditions with the loudest occurring around 4:50am on December 25. Essex County in New York experienced cryoseisms as late as December 31, 2013, and numerous frost quakes again occurred in the Greater Toronto Area around 2:00 AM January 4, 2014, and January 7, 2014 overnight.

Cryoseisms typically occur when temperatures rapidly decrease from above freezing to subzero, usually between midnight and dawn (during the coldest parts of night)

Initial indications may appear similar to those of an earthquake with tremors, vibrations, ground cracking and related noises,[2] such as thundering or booming sounds.

seems like ol' all has taught US alot about the gradual warming effects but forgot to let US know that the sudden freezing stuff would get worse..

Don't forget the " POLAR VORTEX "

I heard today that the "polar vortex" was coming down from the Arctic because it had warmed up so much in the Arctic that the cold air escaped.

So it was warm enough to melt the ice caps, then it escaped, so it is now colder? Must be the friction that is cooling it down so much. :???: Maybe a new tax will negate the affect of the warm air that cooled, due to global warming

I still remember Reader2 giving me crap about 4 years ago, because I discounted global warming..."Global Warming is a fact" Since then it's become "Climate Change". It sure has, the climate has changed to cold.

I'm thinking Alberta should stop capturing carbon and release a bit, so those poor gang bangers in Chicago don't freeze their hands to those registered handgun triggers.

Yet a study by Colorado State Professor Elizabeth A. Barnes suggests that this explanation oversimplifies the impacts of Arctic warming, as well as the subsequent impacts on severe weather:

We conclude that the mechanism put forth by previous studies … that amplified polar warming has led to the increased occurrence of slow-moving weather patterns and blocking episodes, appears unsupported by the observations.

in other words.. the claims by global change scientist and activists is based on an assumption... and not on real science or observation.

used to have to go about 300 miles south of Yellowknife before you saw a coyote. They're in Yellowknife now.

Turkey buzzards showing up here---last couple of yrs---never saw them before. Just observations.

The Eastern and Western Turkey Vultures differ in tail and wing proportions. It ranges from southeastern Canada south through the eastern United States. It is less migratory than C. a. meridionalis and rarely migrates to areas south of the United States. -

I hadn't seen them here for years, but soon after we were over-ran with the Canadian geese they followed.. neither can be hunted here so they just sit around and crap up the place..

is it weather or just plain over population..

I know the envvirowackos told us many of these endangered species and other species would not live in a certain place. They adapted.
Never saw deer or antelope on my home place, a daily occurrence now. So many antelope we might have to start roping and branding them
