"Fundamentals Are Sound"?

OK Moonbats, this one's for you.

But on Sunday, that optimistic message came from economic adviser Christina Romer. When asked during an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" if the fundamentals of the economy were sound, she replied: "Of course they are sound."

"The fundamentals are sound in the sense that the American workers are sound, we have a good capital stock, we have good technology," she said. "We know that - that temporarily we're in a mess, right? We've seen huge job loss, we've seen very large falls in GDP. So certainly in the short run we're in a - in a bad situation."

Just a week ago, White House Office of Management and Budget director Peter Orszag declared that "fundamentally, the economy is weak." Days later, Obama told reporters he was confident in the economy.

What about the paragraph that was above the one you posted Mike? and from MSNBC no less!

During the fall campaign, Obama relentlessly criticized his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain, for declaring, “The fundamentals of our economy are strong.” Obama’s team painted the veteran senator as out of touch and failing to grasp the challenges facing the country.

Here's another change coming our way....so if McCain was McSame....should it be Barack Bush?

WASHINGTON - The Obama administration is signaling to Congress that the president could support taxing some employee health benefits, as several influential lawmakers and many economists favor, to help pay for overhauling the health care system.

The proposal is politically problematic for President Obama, however, since it is similar to one he denounced in the presidential campaign as “the largest middle-class tax increase in history.” Most Americans with insurance get it from their employers, and taxing workers for the benefit is opposed by union leaders and some businesses.

In television advertisements last fall, Mr. Obama criticized his Republican rival for the presidency, Senator John McCain of Arizona, for proposing to tax all employer-provided health benefits. The benefits have long been tax-free, regardless of how generous they are or how much an employee earns. The advertisements did not point out that Mr. McCain, in exchange, wanted to give all families a tax credit to subsidize the purchase of coverage.

Thanks for posting the link...I read it in entirety... it ain't over 'til it's over.

Health care is a very important issue to me...I and my family have been screwed over by insurance companies. It's a fight every time something is denied. So far we've prevailed...but not without tears and fears. And there is no reason that there should have been a fight, for cripes sake!!!!

Be that as it may, I do not agree with taxing health insurance...but I am waiting to see if that's actually proposed in the final bill. I am anxious to see what the final bill entails.

Untill you have delt with Workmens comp you have NO CLUE as to the fight. Talk about fear and tears.......try not being able to do your job and being told you should be healed by now. Then reading all medical sites about hernited disks you are only starting to heal.
Health care is NOT , let me repeat NOT A RIGHT. With our socity feeling things are owed to them and taking advantage of the "system" has caused the present situation of deny everything untill the people appeal.

Back to the economy being fundamentally sound. Where is OT with his outrage? Seems he liked using that talking point against McCain when he said it. Surely he will call Obama out on it also? :?

Yesterday the AP noted the seeming contradiction between Barack Obama's recent declaration that the fundamentals of the US economy are 'sound' and his relentless criticism of Sen. John McCain - during the presidential campaign - for essentially making the same assessment.

However, White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs on Monday tried to smooth over this seeming contradiction by asserting that Sen. McCain had characterized the economy as being fundamentally "STRONG", whereas the president had characterized the economy as being fundamentally "SOUND".

Now, aside from the fact that Mr. Gibbs' contention is nothing more than a childish play on words and pure chicanery at best, it also happens to be patently skewered.

why are there only comments from conservatives on this thread? Libs were bashing McCain for saying the same things, but now that Obama says them its okay? Alice is the only one with any kind of nads to comment here...where are the rest of the Obama supporter's thoughts on this?

Not to mention the economy looked a lot more stable back when McCain said it. If McCain was out of touch, the Obama must be from Mars! Or just a liar!

Yanuck, nice to see you here.

If you have been following the discussions of the past weeks and months, you'll know that no one listens or learns from the other side, instead insults are hurled. I just got fed up personally.

Spring is here and the weather's good. I prefer to use my time more productively. I'll be on and off. Perhaps my patience for the futility of discussion on PB will return :)

We'll look forward to your insults on your return.

Translation: I'm an Obamazombie and there's no way that I can defend all of crap he's pulling. Rather than admit the obvious that we all made a terrible mistake electing him, I'm just going to ignore the truth and pretend that he's the great leader I want him to be - and I can't do that by being constantly reminded of his shortcomings on this board.

Yep-- that has made me more turned off to the folks that call themselves (R) cultists than anything.....No matter what you counter with its the same old rhetoric of rightwingernut extremist cult talk-- or the yappy dogs that personally attack you- and are slapped on the back by their buddy cultists as being good old boys- and never even questioned...That Rush/Rove mentality alone did more in the last 2-3 years to drive me from the Republican party than anything...

Spring is here- cows are calving (which 90% of these banker/anonymous cultists and yappy's don't even know about)- been busy with that-weighing and tagging calves- getting bulls tested--plus spending the last few days figuring out and getting the semen order lined out to breed to the registered heifers (something else most the yappy's wouldn't know about)...Went to town this afternoon to get a haircut- since I was honored to be asked to be one of the dignitaries on Thursday presenting pins and awards for our Law Enforcement folks that were involved in the shooting with the sniper we had in our community a few months ago- and I heard the Governor and AG will be there so didn't want to look like an Alabama hick  ....
But from what I gather from most these KKK and extremist folks the only side of Law Enforcement they ever saw was on the opposite side from me.. :( :(

And on top of that DOW was up 178 today
