The only exposure I've had with the Hutterite people is from my time in and around Choteau MT. as there's a sizeable colony near there, can't remember exactly the location/road. They were EXTREMELY nice and gracious to us anytime we encountered each other. The kids were excited at what we were doing at the sites etc up near Bob Marshall, etc
A good friend of my , now in NE but then lived in Hobson MT, kept calling them " hoots" and cussing about them and making snide remark about them anytime we'd see them in and about town.
We had several ' heated' discussion over that as I didn't think that proper to call them such.
To me, it's like what Sandhusker said in a previous post in PB about the use of the " N" word. He, SHusker, apparently uses slang like and other words to describe people. Maybe it's just me...but kinda makes my skin crawl.

I don't think Hoot is derogitory,at least thats my impression. One of my long time friends is married to a ex Hutterite and they both say,They're going to visit the Hoot relatives,its just short for.
Every Colony is different,they're regulated by Elders,depends what happens after the Elders leave,how things are followed.
Last yr the Colony my girl teaches in,took the computers out of her classroom because the Elders had visited and that was a new rule.What upset Liesha was the computers,{that are heavily regulated by the region} in the classroom was pulled BUT they allowed the computers to stay in the homes where the parents were allowing unlimited access to the net.
In our area there are four pretty close Colonies,I worked on one for a short time with a diabled young man....mostly really good people. But there are Colonies you don't buy stuff from,not high on the honorable scale.If your friend Kola ran into one of those it can leave a bad taste in your mouth for sure!!!

I asked him if he knew the people from the colony....he didn't have a clue. He was going on the " Hutterite" rumors.
We almost got into a knock down drag out when I made him stop on the Crow Reservation once. I pretended I didn't know him :shock: :shock: It was embrassing and I'm surprised he didnt get his arse whupped right then and there!
I guess a lot of " names" are regional though.
