Baby okra plants. I planted the seed late Thursday afternoon, after soaking them in hot water over night. They sure came up fast. This is what they looked like yesterday.

These kinda resemble flox…but they are real close to the ground, and the petals are pointed instead of rounded. Dunno what they are.

Looks good Jersey...real good. I just dug up about 10 or 15 lbs of potatoes tonight and one batch of my corn is about chest high and the other is about mid knee. My squash is about like yours but I planted my cukes earlier and they are already putting out little finger sized little guys or gals! My rhubarb is exceeding my expectations but everyone says don't harvest the first year so I'm trying to hold back. Tomatoes are tomatoing like crazy!

Ughh if I could just keep this nasty short winged katydids off of them...they are absolutely everywhere in my yard and hanging on my house and it is simply awful....they really freak me out....as far as little creepy crawlies go those are definetly my nemesis.

I dusted everything with 7 dust this afternoon.....That was a job with the corn. Bugs was tryin to get in at the silks. Have killed several tomato worms up until I dusted them a few days ago. Dusted my cabbage....and peppers cuz it looked like somethin was gnawin on em.

My biggest worry now is snakes.....with the peas takin off like they have.....uhgggggg I gotta wade thru all that.

I've been goin out every other day and pickin wild plums, found a thicket of them......I've gotten quite a few so far. Then found a big patch of dewberries so picked a quart of them so far. They are covered. Will go back tomorrow or the next day and see if I can get somemore.

What kind of peas are those....they don't look like the peas I'm use to....

No I didn't plant any black eyed peas. I have a few rows of zipper peas....a couple rows of cream peas, and half a row of some really small cream peas that were mixed in with what we planted last year. They make a pod about 6 inches long. They are super easy to shell. Unlike purple hull peas.... won't ever plant any more of those daggum thangs. They are good to eat...but turn your fingers black...and are hard to shell.
Black eyes aren't hard to shell...I just didn't see any point in planting any of those with all these other peas. Ill be so sick of peas I won't know what to do LOL

hey silly question....does Okra come back every year? Or do you have to replant it? I planted some this year and it is doing amazingly and is about 6 inches tall already....well and someone told me something about it coming back every year but it was a very loose source so am not sure....

Nope it doesn't come back every year. Last year my okra stalks got about 10 ft tall.....blooms and puts new pods on at the top. But you can let a few pods stay on the stalk until they are big...big big.....and then dry them and save the seed. I usually lay mine out on the cabinet somewhere outta the way to dry. Then when fully dry, break it open and put the seed in a ziplock bag in the freezer all winter. Before plantin the next year, I boil water on the stove, put the seeds in a coffee cup. Pour the boilin water over the seed and let them sit 24 hours before planting, sure boosts them comin up. They actually pop open in the cup of water, and you can see the lil white thing that's a sprout comin out.
