Spent this fine Labor Day doing some labor.
We went out on an old burn to cut & haul some of our winter wood. It was in the upper 80's but we had a breeze so it wasn't too bad. Like most things we do, it was a family affair. Even took the In-laws with us.
Dad & Mom in-laws and our two kids in the wood buggy.
The best wood is on the sides of the ridges where the old cedars grew a little bigger. Atleast a chainsaw is better than a bowsaw!
Me and Mrs. H's Dad hard at work. The best part about heating your home with wood is it warms ya up multiple times. When ya cut it, when ya pack it, when ya stack it, when ya haul it in to the stove and when ya burn it!
Little H and Littlest H with thier Grandma. The wood buggy makes it easier to get to wood you can't get the truck to. But ya have to touch it twice.
My Father-in-laws dually and trailer. He got a good jag of wood and so did I.
You can get your kids to load a lot of wood if ya chum them with juice boxes!
The mouth of Lee's canyon. Where we cut wood was on two private sections some friends own. We get lots of wood and they get less dead trees to sishkabob themselves on when gathering cows.
Two saws cutting with our wives and the two kids helping load the buggy. Many hands, even little ones, make the work go quicker.
One buggy at a time.
Some good lookin' guy with a chainsaw.
The kids and gals took a little break to cool off thier toes in the creek.
While Boyd and I kept at the task. It'll be worth it come December!
Little H was the foreman on the project.
The reward for our labors! Cedar burns hot like pine but not so quick. You can bank the fire better at night. We get 6 cords or so each summer/fall and a ton of lump coal and it keeps us toasty.
How it looks stacked in the woodshed! SWEET!
And tonight after we cleaned up a little, we went out and shot Mrs. H's rifle in preparation for her upcoming deer hunt in October. Lets just say she knows how to squeeze a trigger on the ol' .270
The bottom right was shot #1 and a pull. Then she bore down and did alright on #2 which was right 2 inches and a tad low. The next three were right on the money!
Better send her North to show Gcreek how to ventilate bears!
