We've been busy the last week or so, getting all the cattle back home from the various pastures they spent the summer in. Here's some photos,

No need to rush, they'll settle down.

Getting the cows out of the Community Pasture. Our cows are summered with 6 other patrons, we didn't help gather this year, but got there just as they were bringing the cattle into the corral, and in time to sort.

There they come

4 riders, a whole lot of cows...

All sorted, the truck is ours.

How we had to unload, as a Y on the hydrant froze the day before and broke, and flooded out in front of our loading chute....

It seems to be the government design of choice-do they have trouble finding the pen to go into to?

Yeah, they do have trouble. The cows aren't so bad, but the calves don't understand it at all. And, you have too many people standing in front of the cattle, no matter what pen they are heading for. Unlike a straight alley, where the guys on the gates are either close to the fence or just inside the gate if they aren't catching.

interesting setup, thanks for posting. how'd you get the top of that truck unloaded...make em jump?

Well, we thought about it, but it is kinda high. So we just ran them down through the back end. Had a little trouble convincing them to make the turn in there, but it worked.

they could make it down to the belly without putting the top ramp up?

Oh, yeah. You open the bottom gate so they can get down into the belly and then drop the top ramp down. Then they just have to be turned around and they can get into the belly. But you can't have the back end real full or you can't open the bottom gate. We got lucky, we had 9 cows on the back....

I'm surprised at how similar the landscape, grasses and lack of trees your area is to mine. If you didn't say you were from Sk, I'd say those pics were taken just up the road!
Nice, very nice! 8)

That shot, "cool morning" is a really COOL picture. That's worthy
of being on display.

Are those dogs parents to BMR's Ace?

Thanks for the photos.

Well, we are really just across the border from Northern Montana and Northern North Dakota. Pretty similar country.

I think one is the father and the other looks like his brother. :)

Thanks FH. I took quite a few similar to that one, just have to decide which one/s I like the best.

The redder one is Ace's father and the lighter colored one is his brother. The pup is really looking like he will make a good dog too!
