How's the fires your way? I see they have hwy 20 closed between Bella Coola and Anahim Lake. My property is on the border line of an evacuation alert. I haven't got a notice yet, but everyone south and east of me have. Hope you're not in the evacuation area down there.

We are fine, still haying. Smoky as heck here, the last three days visibility has been a mile or less. Cleared to the south today for a few hours.
Thanks to BC Parks policy, these two fires that are closest to us could have been put out completely two weeks ago when the rain we had nearly did the job. Hot weather and windy days got them ripping now. Town of Anahim Lake is now under evacuation alert and the govt. is giving the Indians free rides to Williams Lake to breathe the smoke there.
They are finally fighting the one at Heckman Pass now that it is out of the park. The fire in the Corkscrew Basin of the Itcha Mtns is still being left to run free as it is also a park area. 2 neighbors are losing a lot of grass over that on and their precious Cariboo herd may have to find another locale to live in for a few years.

Can you tell Parks "experts" P!$$ me off a little????

Well, taking them to Williams Lake isn't gonna do much good.
The city of Williams Lake have just received their Evacuation Alert about 10 minutes ago.

The City of Williams Lake has issued an Evacuation Alert for property owners/residents west of the Mackenzie Ave. Industrial Area and along Soda Creek Road to the City boundary. This alert has been issued as a precaution to ensure that property owners/residents are adequately prepared in the event that wild fires within the Meldrum Complex cross the Fraser River.

It was smoky here earlier this morning, but now that the winds have picked up it has cleared some of the smoke. I can see a big plume to the southwest of me.
They say that with the winds today the fires will be traveling about 25 meters a minute.

Wind is from the southwest today, beatiful blue skies with thunderclouds passing over so far. :D

The last thing we need is the dry lightning they are predicting. We only have a few bales in the windrow in case it rains. I heard this morning that the forest service took advantage of the cool days and rain last week at Meldrum Creek to light a backfire that escaped and burnt someone's house and barn. It is unbelieveable the stupidity of forest fire brass that they won't allow cats to work at night when the fires cool down and some headway could be made. The two fires here were really ripping today but I forgot the camera at home. Anahim Lake is now basically empty as most everyone has gone to Williams Lake that is now also under evac. alert. If you need to go out for anything the RCMP won't let you back past Alexis Creek. Don't know if they are allowing residents between Alexis Creek and Anahim Lake in or not.
For all those that didn't want the bugkill logged and made the Itchas into a Park....... How's that workin' for ya? :D

Going to be an interesting few days to come. Wind is now getting stronger as I type.

The wind has been nasty here most of the day. I posted some new pics in my Wildfire thread.
Aren't the roads all closed both ways of you now Gcreek? How would you get out if you need to?
Dry lightning storms reported in Quesnel today. That is NOT good!
They just issued an Area Restriction order on all areas south along hwy 16 from Walcott including Houston, Burns Lake to Fraser Lake. All areas west of Holy Cross Forest Service Road to Knewtubb Lake. All areas north of Nathlkuz Lake, Ootsa Lake and west to Tatsa Lake. All areas East of Kemano River, Atna Peak, Dogs Ear Peak and Eagle Peak. All areas south from Eagle Peak East to Walcott.

Heard there is a new fire between Telkwa and Houston today, road is supposed to be closed.
I'm really starting to feel a little closed in by fire.

The road closure thing gave me a laugh this morning. People are supposed to evacuate A.L. but the road is closed to Bella Coola and also closed at Alexis Creek. Where are we supposed to go? Tatla Lake? With it's 5 room Ho-Tel?
I guess they just aren't letting anyone go west. Nothing like giving a beaurocrat a title and a badge to bring out the stupidity in the human race.
