Here's how you stop and deter Putin. it is how George Bush got the job done in 2008 in Georgia.

Bush started out by talking to him face to face in Beijing and letting him know, man to man, that it was not going to go as Putin imagined.

We had military advisors already on the ground there. Bush immediately expedited the return of 2,000 members of Georgia's 31st Light Infantry Battalion who had been fighting beside US Marines in Afghanistan.

He then sent in more US personnel and material on C-130s and C-17s...direct to Tiblisi and immediately (which is what we should be doing right now to Kiev). When those US C-17s and C-130s went in, they had a lot of US personnel on them in addition to the supplies and material...and that was in addition to the military personnel we already had there.

Bush did not pull those out...he added more to it and made it clear to Putin that a push into and through Tiblisi was going to put the US Military in the line of fire and that Putin DID NOT WANT TO DO THAT.

In addition, in short order, three US warships and three NATO warships entered the Black Sea. Some brought supplies, others stood by and defended them. The three NATO warships and one of the US warships were top of the line surface combatants with two AEGIS vessels and two other guided-missile vessels.

Putin knew that Bush meant what he said. He had seen it already time and again over the seven years prior. He consiodered the cost of rolling over those US personnel and what the consequences would be, and he knew there would be very severe consequences with a heavy interest payment.

The following are all pictures from the events of the day, during the Georgian crisis, of us material, more advisors, equipment flowing in. Of US advisors already on the ground and training Georgian forces immediately prior to and during the crisis, and US and NATO warships all sent into the Black Sea during the crisis.

Bush drew a stark line in the sand...and he did it with the US military even as the Russian forces were nearing the capitol...and Putin paused, and then stopped, and negotiated.

Now THAT'S how you deter a man like Putin. Stop talking and start acting.

If I were Putin, I'd be pretty p****d at all the Republicans giving Obama credit for the invasion of Ukraine.

If I were OT, I'd be pretty embarrassed that the world sees Buckwheat as a wimp.

You know, all the "Red Lines" and such......................

No one is giving credit to obama for anything. the Russians are there as peace keepers...obama's solution would have been to ship weapons to those that have overthrown a legitimate government

You have no idea what this is about, do you OT?

Reminds me of OT degrading the 1800's "Social Values" of the South (slavery) while they were annihilating & committing genocide on a race of people in his neighborhood and beyond.

Huge snip .........

Bush? Who? Bush?

Lots of people dislike Bush for a myriad of reasons - but when you are sitting at a table in Afghanistan over a holiday and the Prez walks in unannounced - that is impressive.

Bush had the gonads to do that.

Check out pics of Putin sitting with Hussein at meetings - Putin despises him.

Putin is a Russian

Russians respect strength.

Every Russian I have dealt with - and there have been a few - is exactly the same.

They respect strength - and despise a p.u.s.s.y.

Even some of the US troops I worked with called Hussein a p.u.s.s.y - which actually astounded me at that time, but they truly believed it.

Crimea will likely go as Putin wants it to go this time.

While I admit I could be wrong, I would gladly bet a Timmies coffee to anyone that wants to come and collect if they win: Putin is in the drivers seat and Hussein is being told to get out of the way.

Now for the other side of the US front:

From: http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2014/03/02/Kerry-Complains-Putin-Plays-by-19th-Century-Rules

Secretary of State John Kerry complained on Sunday's edition of NBC News' Meet the Press that Vladimir Putin was playing by "19th century" rules, not 21st century norms, in his invasion of the Ukrainian region of Crimea.

Kerry is in my mind not only mentally unstable, he is unable to grasp the situation at hand. At least for the present, Putin does not give a damn what the US or any other country thinks.

Putin is simply planning to "protect his country's vital interests" - and it does not matter what those interests really are - Putin will do as he sees fit as there is not credible threat at this time to his plan.

Ukrainian radical activists are conducting organized searches of residences of former government officials and handing over all documents to the US military, a man who says that he took part in some of these operations claims.

The allegations come from a Russian citizen who was detained by the Federal Security Service (FSB) shortly after returning from Ukraine. The 21-year-old, who calls himself Vladislav, says he spent some three days among the ranks of the Right Sector group in Kiev after the ousting of President Viktor Yanukovich, and took part in the raids of his deposed officials.

I couldn't agree more.

I know and have worked with Russians.. and even had the opportunity to ride on a Russian cruiser..

they are tough negotiators.. and they only respect a person who takes a tougher stance with them..

oh and they despise the Ukrainians.. I learned that the hard way..
