George Zimmerman helped rescue a family from an overturned car after an accident in Florida last week, a spokesman for his lawyer said.
Zimmerman was driving on route 417 in Sanford on Wednesday when he spotted an overturned car and pulled over to help, Sean Vincent, a spokesman for Zimmerman's legal team, told the Daily News.
"There was a family trapped in there," Vincent said. "George was able to help the family get out of the car before the first responders got there."
Zimmerman's involvement in the accident was first reported by ABC News.
Clutching a fire extinguisher he keeps in his car for emergencies, the 29-year-old volunteer watchman checked for signs of a blaze before freeing the family and waiting for rescuers to arrive.
Zimmerman gave a statement to a police deputy, who recognized him, Vincent said.
Sanford police told ABC News the crash occurred at the intersection of I-4 and route 417, less than a mile from where he shot Trayvon Martin in February 2012.
The incident came just four days after a jury found Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder in the teen's death.
The ruling sparked hundreds of protests across the country and has led to death threats against Zimmerman, who was presumed to be in hiding.
Sanford police referred questions about the incident to the Seminole County Sheriff's office, who didn't immediately return a call for comment.
