President Barack Obama on Wednesday shortened the sentences of 214 federal inmates, most of them non-violent offenders sentenced for drug crimes, the White House said.

Of those 214, 67 were serving life sentences.

Wednesday's commutations bring the total number of commutations by Obama to 562, which the White House noted is more than the last nine presidents combined. 197 of those were serving life sentences.

It might be interesting to know how many of these inmates are black.
