Get Ready For $5 Gas

Remember this? ....... 'Energy prices will necessarily skyrocket.'

FORTUNE -- President Obama may have a lot more to worry about than bombing the debate this week. Traders are starting to get particularly bullish over gasoline prices – and that is bad news for the average driver, who may also be looking to vent his spleen at the voting booth.
Reports of gas shortages along the high-demand west and east coasts may be fleeting – although deeply concerning – but they highlight a problem that's expected to persist in the U.S.: our refineries are getting old. Given that a new refinery has not been built since 1976, commodities desks on Wall Street are bracing for more refinery outages and fires just as the nation needs to gear up for the busy winter heating season.

sorry Mike but your warning is a bit to late for California..

California hit by gas shortage, high prices

SAN FRANCISCO — Gasoline station owners in the Los Angeles area are beginning to shut pumps because of supply shortages

Costco’s outlet in Simi Valley, 40 miles northwest of Los Angeles, ran out of regular gasoline Wednesday, Jeff Cole, Costco’s vice president of gasoline, said by telephone. The company hasn’t been able to find enough unbranded summer-grade gasoline to keep its stations supplied, he said.

The gasoline shortage “feels like a hurricane to me, but it’s the West Coast," Cole said. “We’re obviously extremely disheartened that we are unable to do this, and we’re pulling fuel from all corners of California to fix this."

California had its largest single-day gasoline price spike in almost five years Thursday, leading to long lines at the pump, gas shortages and even station closures. Experts said the price increases could continue for weeks

"We are looking at the highest California prices ever," said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for Oil Price Information Service, which compiles the price data for AAA.

a power outage at ExxonMobil Corp.'s 150,000-barrel-per-day Torrance refinery Monday and a shutdown of the crude distillation unit at Chevron Corp.'s Richmond refinery contributed to the tight supplies.

Gesuina Paras, an Exxon spokeswoman in Torrance, said the refinery may burn off flammable gas released by pressure relief valves for a week as it restores production following a power failure that shut down some units and slowed output from others.

"The squeeze is on, and people are doing desperate things," said Van der Valk. "The mom and pop gas stations are having to close down from either not being able to obtain gasoline from their regular distributor or cannot afford the break-even price of almost $5 per gallon."

yep,.. this is what happens when liberal policies clash with real world realities..

"We're not going to wake up tomorrow and find out this is a bad dream. It's real life, and unfortunately there is a clear potential for California to set a new record state high price,"

We've been at $5.07 per U.S. gallon for over a month now. That's Canadian funds based on $1.269 per litre.

Wouldn't even look at a car that gets less than 40 mpg. Trucks are bad enough, there's no way to avoid that, but no need to drive a gas guzzling car too.

It is sad that many still don't get it. I had a lady tell me yesterday that she thought it was good for the environment that gas prices are high.

I asked how she knew that gas was bad for the environment?

Because of the emissions she said.

CO2 you mean? Yes she said.

I informed her that since the dawn of time, humans have not changed the amount of carbon in the universe. It is a constant cycle.

I then asked about the millions of acres of organic fuel that would burn in wildfires in the past before fire control by modern efforts.

She said she thought wild fires were good.

Even though they produce the same CO2? Yes.

So wild fires are okay but cars are bad even though they produce the same by product? Yes

An IQ test should be required to vote.
