Thank you for voting my picture as the winner! It was our 1988 branding crew. Baxter Black was in the area with plans to speak at the Gordon Town and Country program. Soapweed, opportunist that he is, called him to see if he would want to come to our branding. He jumped at the chance. Soapweed and JF picked him up at the Chadron airport the night before. Baxter is on the spotted horse far right. I am on the buckskin far left. Soapweed is on a roan horse prettiy much dead center, JF is somewhere in the picture. The rest are all family and neighbors who came every year. Thanks again! Bob M

My grandfather and his brother were two of the 700 participating hunters involved. My grandfather would have turned 26 years old just twenty days after the photograph was taken.

OOPs! Baxter is fourth rider to the left of the far right instead of being far right. He was as good a hand as any that were there that day. He wrestled and roped. I was branding. Someone wanted me to look at a calf with a lump on his stomach. I motioned for Baxter to come and take a look. Without batting an eye he whipped his knife out of his pocket, made a cut across the lump, squeezed out the puss, wiped his knife off on the calf, stuck it back in his pocket, got on his horse and went back to roping.

And ya know...without you tellin us that Baxter Black was there...we'da never known. But after you pointing out which one he is......you can just tell it's him by his shirt..wild rag and hat, and the way he is sittin his horse.

What a neat photo.

Mine is of myself and some of the people who had worked for me. They came back to help with my 1998 branding. I wanted a picture of them to put in a scrap book. I appreciate what all of them have done for me.
