Getting old is the pits, but the alternative is worse.

I haven't been on ranchers.net for weeks because I've been taking care of my mother. She fell the first week of October, banged her head on the sidewalk and broke her knee. As her knee started to mend, her head started to get more foggy everyday. When I got back from Las Vegas I could see how much worse she was getting, I asked her doctor to do an MRI and he found a massive bleed inside her skull caused by the fall.

He got her lined up with a neuro surgeon from Bismack and she had brain surgery November 21st. She was dismissed from the hospital and sent to the nursing home near here on the following Saturday. She has fallen three times this week and her head is now worse than it was before the surgery.

Don't know what our next step is. I'm afraid those falls may have started another bleed but the doctors want to give her a little more time before they do anything. Sure would appreciate your prayers.

It's pretty interesting to read what has been happening on here since I've been gone. Hope I can get back on here once in a while!

Don't forget to take care of your self as well as your mother.
Sure sorry to hear about her problems. This is something us Baby Boomers are facing more wll the time.

Take care.

Reading your post gave me the chills- those slow bleeds are hard to pick up and so sorry to hear about the repeated falls. Over Thanksgiving 3 of our 28 relatives had fallen in November- no broken bones but served as a reminder how easily mishaps can happen- two fell on stairs. And today I spoke with a friend who fell down stairs trying to carry too much at once (don't we all ) but she has spent three months with a broken leg and sprained knee. Anyway, didn't mean to digress, but will be praying for both you and your mother during this tough situation.

So sorry to hear about your mom. Taking care of elderly parents is very wearing on a person, so do take care of yourself too. I hope things improve for her soon.

Yes, Liberty Belle, I am sorry to hear about you mothers problems too. When I used to see her now and again, I remember her as quite the spunky old gal. If you need anything, don't be afraid to ask.

LB:

Please know that your Mom and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. As others said, please remember to take care of yourself, while also taking care of her.

TTB
