Give this serious thought....

I think with everything of a religious nature you have some who take/translate certain aspects farther than others.

There are TONS of JW's in my area ( must be a Southern thing!) and so many people give them a hard time or a just plain rude to them.

They are just folks to me as I treat people the same way I'm treated.

The come witnessing around here now and again... Used to be every Sunday or at least once a month... They have only come to this house once in the year that we have been over here.. Spring comes, they might be showing up again. We try to be polite as long as we are not overy busy we will talk for a spell, just like anyone else.

Oh if I was that narrow minded I would miss the chance to have this wonderful lady as a friend.I don't have to agree with her beliefs for her to be a friend. :)

You know what she has NEVER tried to push her religion on me,we get Jehovahs once or twice a year anymore but they just leave The Watchtower and never push to talk.

I was friendly with one or two families of them back in High School. Nice kids.. To be honest the different religous beliefs almost never came up, whether the person was Catholic, Greek orthadox, Muslim, Hindu or whatever their families' were.. It just didn't matter.. Now, I wish we woud have asked more questions of each other as it was probably a great oportunity tolarn soe of the whys in different religions.

There are a lot of cases every year where people refuse to use any sort of modern medicine to save their children.

In most cases, the courts remove them from parental custody and let the medics do their jobs.

I am a complete loss as to how these people think.

I would do anything to save my child.

however:

I also know stem cells can come from amniotic fluid, also from umbilical cords.

Betcha they're the same stem cells.

Ok my question is Why the fear of transfusions among Jehovas, what is the reasoning behind this, anyone know??? Thx

If you read the scriptures that were listed with the site Kolan gave you, it will explain to you a little on why Witnesses abstain from blood. It is not only transfusions but the eating of blood. They would not eat blood sausage or Blood pudding as many do. They believe the bible says Blood is sacred. They put the word of God above self preservation, much like some religious people might not have an abortion even if they knew it might lead to them and the child dying at birth.

Even though it might be hard for us to understand because we generally think of things as important now. They believe there is much worse things than dying, that being disobeying Gods Commandments. And that being resurrected into life everlasting is what its all about anyway.

Many will confess to believing there is an afterlife or Resurrection, but when faced with the opportunity of obeying gods laws and reaching that goal or selling their soul to live a little longer today they will choose living longer today. If we truly believe in the after life breaking Gods laws to live longer would not be something we would do. And they believe this to be one of Gods laws. And they are willing to die rather than break them, because they truly believe the reward of Gods Kingdom is not the world we live in now.

It takes some Strong Faith to abstain from Blood transfusions!

Yes for sure it takes strong faith. I work on our pallitive care team, even people with the strongest faith find it very hard to leave their worldly families. The Jehovahs believe we will all meet in "Paradise"{my jehovah friends words}when the world ends. BTW I did read the site Kola gave me with interest...its important to have an open mind,so something can be learned :)
