Why are the Democrats not bringing back Glass-Steagal act yet? Removing that regulation is big reason we are in this mess, so why is that not the first thing they should have done once getting back in power?

The law removing it carries "Slick Willie's" signature and also made all the illegal crap going on at CITI legal..... Do not even mention Glass Stegall.

Canada de-regulated in 1987 and their banking system is fine.

Maybe they have a Congress that actually provides the oversight they are required to here?

Those two, along with Maxine Waters did everything thing they could to escalate loans through Fannie & Freddie to their sheeple, and defended the inevitable Bust.

And now sit in judgement and condemnation of those that did exactly what they opened the door and insisted they do.

That is one thing Canada can be very proud of is the strong oversight of our banks and the fact we do not have them failing and having to be bailed out. Gee was that to positive coming from the likes of me

Tam, would you say it is oversight, in Canada?, or just responsible management, and solid banking/business fundamentals?

I feel it is a lot of both as I asked our banker one time if what was happening in the US might happen here and her answer to me was that it was very highly unlikely due to the rules the Canadian banks have to live up to. This is one thing I do really like here and I feel it is why ours right now, is one of the stronger economies in this world meltdown. I like the fact we have a Conservative Government that is working hard to hold down spending. The Canadian bail out could have been much worse than it was in my opinion if the Coalition could have toppled the government and took over.
