Good morning!!! Got a little something to let you all in on...hope ya got the time! I have been attending weekly bible study classes that a friend of mine talked me into....classes by Beth Moore...nondenominational and aimed at Christian women!! I "lost" a majority of my faith when I was a teen and have been struggling since....this class has helped, but I still felt a twinge of doubt in my heart! Well, one of the things we are supposed to write in our weekly study guides is a daily "Godstop"....a moment in time when we are reminded about the miracles of God....whether it be a newborn calf, the warmth of sunshine on our face or something "BIG"!!!
Well, my friends...I had that "something BIG" happen to me on Friday!!
I was at work at the hospital and we were having a really, really busy day!! We had several patients on the floor (admits), 3 waiting for our emergency rooms (only have 2 rooms) and only 2 nurses working (me and my buddy, Linda)! Well, the hubby came by "just to say 'hi'"....but, folks, he simply did not look "right"....then he asked me to check his blood pressure! Now, normally his blood pressure is something to be envied by most mortals.....usually 110/60!! Today, his blood pressure was 150/105!!! The he rubbed his chest and said "I just kind of hurt!"....YEP...my heart stopped! I looked through the window to the nurses station at our PA on duty and she hollered to clear the trauma room and get Jesse in there...."NOW!!"........now, mind ya....jesse's family has a history of strokes, Jesse is now 40 and neither of us weigh what we did when we met 12 years ago! Plus, being a rancher is probably one of the most stressful jobs there is!!! anyway, we got him into the trauma room when my buddy, Linda, came in and said "Kris....maybe you should go check our other emergency patients and let me handle this one"...it was then that I realized how absolutely TERRIFIED I was...my hands were shaking and I could hardly breathe! I let Linda take over and I left the room to say a quick prayer...or two! Over the next several hours, we did EKG's to check for the electrical activity of the heart, lots and lots of lab work and constantly checked his blood pressure! The only thing that brought down his blood pressure was nitroglycerin under the tongue! That only worked for a few minutes and then his blood pressure would go back up! We kept him in the hospital with us for several hours and repeated all the tests! Our kids came in after school and the youngest one simply refused to leave his daddy! Fortunately, all the tests came back negative for heart damage, but his blood pressure and very, very low pulse rate still has the docs stumped!! Normally, with high blood pressure, they could put you on a "beta blocker" to bring it down....however, Jesse's resting heart rate was 48-52 beats a minute....a beta blocker would have killed him! Becky, our PA, has a call in to the cardiologist in Bozeman today and we should hear when he can see the hubby...gonna end up going through alot of tests, but with his family history I simply cannot take the chance of there being something serious that we are missing!
Anyway, my "Godstop" came that night after we were home! Jesse was "whupped" from the day and could not keep his eyes open another minute....as I lay there beside him, it suddenly dawned on me that he was "BREATHING"!! SIMPLY BREATHING!! something that I had come so close to not hearing again!!! I had to leave bed and sit in the frontroom by the fireplace and sob!!! It all hit me at once how close I had come to losing him!! I went from bedroom to bedroom (mind you, at 2 in the morning) and just looked at my kids and wondered how I would have told them their daddy was gone......God gave me my miracle that day!! He showed me he is truly there!! He gave me another chance with my husband!! Nope....did not get a wink of sleep that night...just lay there all night and listened to him BREATHE.....and thanked God for each breath!!
So.....what about YOU??? Have you had your "Godstop"????
