Forecasted over night low is 10 above

It was 2 above here this AM- and we were gathering cattle before the sun came up...BRRRRRR.... Had them gathered- sorted- 100 steer calves trailered 5 miles to the scale- weighed, inspected, and loaded on the truck by 10:30 AM- when the sun came out and it finally warmed a little....
But the wind was cold all day- and they're saying some snow tomorrow...

I agree- if it would have been up to me...But the buyer wanted them hauled in and weighed so he could be at the sales ring when the sale started at 10AM...He was only a few minutes late...
This has started to be a standard game plan with this neighbor...

Some of those boys are tougher than me tho- I left after I'd inspected the steers and had them loaded-as I had some more cattle to look at--- but my son stayed and helped haul the heifers to another lot (and had a flat on the trailer  ) - and he said when they finished just before noon and went back to pick up the horses- the neighbor busted out a case of beer and they were standing out there in their mittens sipping a "cool one" before lunch.....

Never did get above freezing today...

Oh yeah the neighbor was there- and his hired hand, several neighbors, and even a couple game wardens that were there just having fun...And I had my bottle of good Canadian anti-freeze behind my seat

Its been a hectic week- as my sister and her husband have been up from Texas visiting- and then on Sat night my mother in law, who's been beenridden for months after a bleed in her brain, died... So we had family coming in from everywhere...And then on top of that- everyone is finally coming to the realization they won't get anymore for their calves and selling them- which has kept me busy with inspecting jobs....
Funeral was yesterday- and everyone will be gone by tomorrow so things might start getting back to normal.... Whatever that is....
I'd bought some registered heifers a week ago over the phone- but hadn't been able to get away to get them- but even got my daughter and SIL to volunteer to take my trailer and go down this weekend and get them for me...Only cost me gas and probably a shopping spree for the daughter in Billings

Hopefully two good cow maker breeding angus heifers -- a Bannon of Wye daughter out of a little cow that traces back 4 times to Viking...The other is a Juanada/Shoshone breeding daughter of Cole Creek Juanada Lad 81T---I have a coming 2 year old heifer out of the same little 4 frame cow, that I bought last year and so far she is looking good...
The sale also had a daughter of Shoshone Felix 6310 JOD I wanted- but someone in Minnesota wanted her more than I wanted to pay  With the price of calves this year- money is a little tighter...

Sorry about your MIL OT.
Not a good time for your wife. :(

Got snow on the ground this morning. It was dropping ice pellets last night around 11pm.

Thanks everyone-- but it is kind of a blessing for the Mother in Law as she's in a much finer place now...Her bleed had left her paralyzed on the left side and totally incapable of taking care of herself-- and she didn't want to live that way...Been kind of tough on the wife and her Dad who have been caring for her the last 5 months- but they wanted to rather than put her in a home..She got her wishes of seeing her last great grandbaby born- and dying at home...
She was a fine lady...Every time me and the father in law would go pull some crazy stunt and then usually come home half hooched up from celebrating, she'd sit there and shake her head and comment how she couldn't believe how she could marry some cowboy- and then go and let her daughter marry one too

Light fluffy snow coming down here this morning too..Just enough to get the ground white..Chilly again-- 20 degrees-- but no wind yet....

Sorry about your family's loss OT.

Been a little cool here too the last few days. Was -25C here this morning, which was better than the -35 we had a couple of days ago. Supposed to hover right around the freezing mark this coming week though, so I guess the longjohns can get laundered
