Good day cause things are humming on my house addition. People working and things getting done!!!

Bad day cause the big burly testosterone poisoned truck driver backed over my rock wall and crushed it!! Geezzzz....I pitched a hissy and told him to get out of his truck and let me back it in place. You should'a seen the look on his face...I think I scared him!!

And....looks like today maybe the day that Sam , my wonder horse, of 35 years may have to go down. Things are ' just not right' this AM....vet's coming at 3PM for a 'lookie-see' but I have the back-hoe on standby, just in case. But, my gut tells me that this is the day!!!

Sorry to hear about your rock wall, and your old horse. Thoughts and prayers headin yer way. Hard to do what you may be facing, but you'll have the memories of that horse as comfort knowing you treated him well, and all the good times you had together.

Kola, our thoughts are with you.
Hard day but the right decision
A good horse is so special. Sam is now galloping on big grassy fields and having a grand time. You have the memory's and listen close when the wind blows, he is chasing it.

What Judith said  Sorry Kola,I guess the day comes,we've been there but the thing is if he wasn't special,he wouldn't have spent his last days there.Good for you loving that horse to the very end and beyond :!:

Thanks for the good wishes...but it was the right thing to do. I had the vet look him over first and he agreed with me that it was the ' time'.

I had decided to do it anyway before wintertime as last winter was really hard on the old boy. Even though he had outside blankets and ' jammies' for nitetime in his stall....it was cold and damp on those old bones. My schedule for this just got pushed up a few months ahead.

So he'll be buried next to his old pasture mate that I had for about 15 years but was in total about 28 yrs old when he had to be put down. They were best buds so it's the proper place.

My vet has told me for years that when he dies he wants to come back as one of my critters cause they live so long and in such comfort!!

Kolan I am so sorry for your loss. You sound like you have come to terms with the time and what you had to do. You are showing a great strength and I hope you also give yourself the freedom to allow your tears to heal your heart.

Sorry about Sam, kola. Makes my eyes leak when I remember my old buckskin, Punk. It never seems like another horse can replace the one you've grown to love, no matter how good the new horse is.

Thanks Nicky, It was a blessing.. He died in the middle of the night.... Look like he just laid down and died. No struggle... Was sad because my little colt was laying beside him.. waiting for him to get up so they could go to the pasture.... Class act to the end.......

Go back and read the Ol Skeeter poem, you can change the name to Sam or Punk or Herbie or whatever they are all the same.
I have to tell another story, I wrote the poem about Bobby and posted it on here awhile back. He was getting on in age and he told me more than one time. "if you see that my mind is failing as my body is already showing it's demise, you treat me like that old horse of yours and you put me down cause it is time, I don't want to live my life suffering and delusional, you just end it for me." I hate to tell you this, but I did not keep my word to that man, I can put down a horse or a dog but I'll be damned for ending the life of a man like Bobby. He did end up in a nursing home and died and I was not even told about it for about 6 months. I still laugh about our times riding together, at least he did not end up in there for an eternity.

Hang tuff' kid!

You know, ol' Bax kind'a summed it up when he said that God gave the animals to who would treat them the best. Most get a cat or a dog.

You did the right thing. He's happy now and runnin' in tall grass with his buddy. ain't sore, and ain't old.

There are worse things in this life than death.

Your more than welcome to come ride one of my buddies, anytime. :)
