Good News from Gas Prices

As I have said before there is some good news about gas prices being high, the Market and consumer are going to force technology to give us what we need and want. Cheap gas prices would have never forced the car makers hands, we would just see bigger and more glutenous SUV's like the Hummer.

GM Goes Beyond Hybrid: Chevy's Electric Car
Big news from the Detroit auto show, with video: General Motors has a 100-mph, all-electric entry into the market for hybrid 2.0.

General Motors revealed its first E-Flex system vehicle here today, the Chevrolet Volt. Though the electrically driven Volt uses a small gasoline engine to charge its lithium-ion battery pack, the car is not a hybrid. The Volt only runs on electricity. The battery pack is recharged via either a wall-outlet, like a “regular” electric or plug-in hybrid, or an on-board generator.

Nissan Plans Electric Car in U.S. by ’10

DETROIT — The Nissan Motor Company plans to sell an electric car in the United States and Japan by 2010, raising the stakes in the race to develop environmentally friendly vehicles.

California tried to make the auto makers do this, back 10 to 12 years ago, but with gas being $1.50 a gallon the auto makers fought it wanting to give us the Hummers we the consumer wanted. But now with gas prices $4.00 a gallon they will dust off that technology and give the consumer what they want now, the Electric car is the future!

Why are you worried about gas, electric non polluting autos and the like.....remember YOU said there's NOT a Global Change going on?

Ya singin' out of a different hymn book now or what?

I applaud any innovation that aligns us with alternatives.

I can park the 1 ton and use it only when I need to drag a trailer some place.

Solar power research is great. Wind energy being harnessed along with hydro is great. Nukes are great too. I'd like to see better batteries and more effort being put toward power generation from tides and tidal currents.

Wouldn't it be nice to charge a car with solar panels in the back forty and use it whenever you needed to run to the feed store for fly tags?

Right now the biggest obstacle appears to be battery efficiency, cost, and weight. The one who figures out how to build a high effiency battery that doesn't weigh a great deal is going to get rich.

I don't believe anyone has said that Global Change isn't going on.......

It's just that why that change is happening is the question.

He'd be a fool to not want to save money.

For me it is about getting some energy independence - for that to happen I think we are going to have to let go of some of this environmental fanaticism...

I am all for solar and wind but from what I have read it will not be enough in of itself. Not to mention I have actually heard groups oppose wind because it kills birds..whatever...

Electric cars will take more electricity which is already short - they just blocked a new coal fired plant in Kansas - which we need or my electric bill is going through the roof..

Nuclear...takes uranium.. we have it..what are the odds the enviros will let us mine it? If not we are back to being dependent on another country to supply it.

We need some energy development in this country now..

there is a saying.. something about the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago..the next best time is now...

seems that could be true for energy developement in this country also.

I may be one of them far right loons on this subject but I even doubt there is Global warming. I am not going to say I know it for sure, but I doubt it is even happening but believe if it is that man is not to blame but it is just a cycle change.

I doubt it because people never talk about the way weather is reported, use to there was thousands more weather reporting stations than there is now, and 50 years ago those weather reporting stations were in pastures many times and now they are at airports. The recording system is flawed, that is why there has been recorded changes on the ground but none in weather balloons in the sky.

Global warming idiots say look at the melting glaciers and ice caps, but I say anyone that wants to show a melting glacier I will show 2 that is actually growing. No one talks about ice caps that have grown just the ones that are receding.

Now to Kolans remark, I do not care one bit about Global Warming, I do not want to be a polluter and think we should have some standard for clean air and water. But I would not pay a nickle if some idiot tells me it will stop global warming. I want electric cars, to take us out of the stone ages of transportation, to quit sending money to the Camel Jocks, and hopefully to either save money or have a more stable energy market. Global Warming can bight my butt!
