GM Goes Beyond Hybrid: Chevy's Electric Car
Big news from the Detroit auto show, with video: General Motors has a 100-mph, all-electric entry into the market for hybrid 2.0.
General Motors revealed its first E-Flex system vehicle here today, the Chevrolet Volt. Though the electrically driven Volt uses a small gasoline engine to charge its lithium-ion battery pack, the car is not a hybrid. The Volt only runs on electricity. The battery pack is recharged via either a wall-outlet, like a “regular” electric or plug-in hybrid, or an on-board generator.

California tried to make the auto makers do this, back 10 to 12 years ago, but with gas being $1.50 a gallon the auto makers fought it wanting to give us the Hummers we the consumer wanted. But now with gas prices $4.00 a gallon they will dust off that technology and give the consumer what they want now, the Electric car is the future!
