Good Sunday Mornin'

I was visiting with a fella whose family used to raise sugar beets as well as other crops. He told me an interesting true story. It seems that lots of years ago a father who had worked hard and owned a sugar factory and a salt mine was retiring, and gave to one son the sugar factory and to his other son, he gave the salt mine. The one son soon squandered (drank up) the sugar factory. He filed bankruptcy and left lots of beet farmers unpaid for their crops. The second son had been successful with the salt mine and some 20 or so years later, to clear the family name, he paid off the beet farmers who had been left holding the bag on his brother's bad debts. I could not help but see myself as well as all humanity owing a debt that we could not pay because of our foolish sins; then Jesus steps up and pays a debt he did not owe. Isn't our Lord amazing? Wouldn't we be foolish to reject Him? Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin', and a good rest of the week too.

Great analogy, Shortgrass.

We just returned this evening from hearing Michael Martin Murphy in concert at Chadron, Nebraska. There was a cowboy poetry get-together at the college this week-end, and he performed in connection with these festivities.

He seems like a very nice man and a Christian, and he put on a great show. He told of when he decided to cut a CD of all cowboy songs, of going to visit Roy Rogers for advice. Roy had two tips for him on how to be successful. Roy said, "Number one, never do anything or sing anything that will lead a young person down the wrong trail in life. It would not be a good thing to have on your conscience. And number two, ride a pretty horse. When you get old, and you can't sing as good as you were once able to do, the kids will still remember you fondly for the pretty horse you rode."

Good advice for anyone.

It's hard to take great photos when I ride the nice mule, because he is a bit hyperactive and the extra motion tends to make the pictures blurry.

Yes, we know Leslie, he is my son-in-law's uncle. I'll bet you have a nice service.
