I've got highspeed now and it actually works-can almost see the deer in my hunting spots as I zoom in lol.

Only problem with that is that you would have had to pull the trigger a few months ago to shoot those deer . . .

But Google earth is pretty incredible. You can run but you can't hide.

Did you ever watch the movie "Enemy of the State"? It's been out a few years ago now. Story about a couple of guys who ticked off the American Gov't and had a tough time avoiding all the ways the Feds had of keeping an eye on them.

I use it quite often to measure out acres and feet for planning fences and building locations. Makes for some pretty accurate mapping, rather than walking around with a surveying wheel, tape measure or pacing it out. :)

A GPS unit on your 4 wheeler will do it perfectly.

one interesting image with Google Earth is the "palm islands" in Dubai.

Last time I checked it out they were still building the islands, and you could see the ships that were bringing in the rock.

Well it was in the times when I still grew a bit more crop but if I remember correctly this GPS unit was just new out of the box and the guy running it was a fairly close neighbor who worked for the farm supply company so I was the lucky guy whose land was the guinea pig for their new toy.

The thing that really burned was when I found out that all of my fields were about 3 - 4% smaller than my records showed. The GPS is a pure measurement and the mechanical acre meters on my drill and planter always had a bit of overlap on the ends, triangles, etc.

That might not seem like a big deal until one considers that we had been paying any custom rates based on the original figures. Plus the fact that it screwed up my crop insurance yields and subsequently CAIS or Market Revenue figures.

That was when I quit crop insurance and we haven't missed it since then. But that's another story.
