What we call gophers are Richardson ground squirrels. Smaller then prairie dogs but bigger then pocket gophers. We do have a few Thirteen lined" striped gophers" but they are a little smaller then "Gophers but don't seem to do much damage.

Gophers around here are Groundhogs/woodchucks... Little bit bigger still, lol.. Otherwise I think what we have are 13 lined ground squirles.. Not a lot of them either anymore, see one everyonce an a while but they have gotten scarce over the last few years..

Is that what we have?? I know they are stripped...Some people say that prarie dogs start there holes where ground squirrels have there holes.. Is there any truth to that??? And if you grab their tales the hair comes right off and they get away.... Course if you're pulling on there tails it would wouldn't it....

you'd think if you can hit a gopher at 40 yards there's no way you'd miss a deer at 20 but it can be done. Don't ask me how I know lol. That little patch of gophers is invaluable-nothing amuses kids like two water pails and some baler twine lol.
