Kosher plant in Gordon closes

GORDON, Neb. (AP) — A Gordon slaughterhouse run by Agriprocessors has closed because of the financial problems the kosher meat company is having.

The phone number for the Local Pride LLC plant that Agriprocessors ran was disconnected Wednesday.

Rabbi Menachem Genack, CEO of the Orthodox Union, said the Local Pride plant in Gordon closed several days ago when Agriprocessors lost its line of credit because the company couldn't afford any new cattle. A company official earlier this year said the plant employed 60 to 80 workers.

The Orthodox Union is the primary certifier of kosher slaughterhouses and monitored the Gordon plant.

Agriprocessors filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday, but company officials have said they are seeking investors and hope to restructure the company. The move came as Agriprocessors was facing a Wednesday hearing in federal court, where St. Louis-based First Bank was seeking to foreclose on the company's Postville, Iowa, plant and appoint a third party to oversee Agriprocessors' assets.

Experts said Agriprocessors provides about 60 percent of the nation's supply of kosher meat.

Company officials have been accused of thousands of child labor violations and of repeatedly breaking safety rules.

Local Pride has been closed since late September, and the best thing for Gordon Ne would be to end the association between Agri Processors and the local plant. Well, to be fair, no person or company benefits from their association with Agri Processors.

It should be noted that Agri Processor owners (The Rubashkin Crime Family) used commerce dept economic development grants to buy the Gordon plant - made available due to the plant's close proximity to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation (and the high unemployment rate on the Rez). So the "jobs" provided by the development grants provided only 32 hours employment at such a low compensation rate the employees were elgible for wlefare benefits like food stamps and free health care, and the Rubashkin Crime Family thinks this makes them keen investors.

I've said exactly the same thing about the Rubashkins reinforcing all the antisematic smears. Truth is, they reinforce smears about criminals. I heard they rearrested Shalome again last week for embezzlement.

A local Gordon man was employed by Local Pride and had child support payments witheld from his paychech. He has the paystubs proving the wtholding, but The Rubashkin Crime Family stole the money and never disbursed the money to the kids. I know this man personally, and saw a couple paystubs showing the witholding. There are many such examples that will soon be published in the Omaha Herald.

The good thing is, that will make available cattle to purchase for all those "dishonest' packers out there who are willing to purchase beef for "nothing"

Good thing Americans are supporting those small time factories that are providing those "COOL" labeled niche markets!
