Got a phone call yesterday at lunch.....

Yesterday at noon, we got a phone call from an outfit from Phenix City, AL, wanting to talk to the owner of the "farm", when I asked the caller who she was representing and what she was selling, she informed me that they sold lighting supplies and such. I then asked how she got our phone number, (which is what we do with all telemarketers) she said from the American Angus Association, and she was just going down her list calling everyone! Did anyone else get a call like this? We knew the AAA had "given/sold" the members names and address to the Gov't to try and get more people to do the premise register without the members knowledge... but now I'm wondering just how many more phone calls we'll get because of this?

Put your number on the Do Not Call list. We did it about two years ago and don't get any telemarketing calls anymore.

I am also on the do not call list so I get very few calls any more.

We do that also... my point was that the American Angus Association has given/sold the members names and phone number's to the highest bidder... and they have no right to do that without first asking the members permission

Well the AAA board and CEO pretty much showed what they were when they sold out to pimp the National ID for the USDA for $500,000+.... So I guess I can see why folks believe it just depends upon how much money some group puts up- as to what they will sell out....Their actions have definitely put their credibility into question by many...

In groups like this- perception is everything...And these type actions purloin their credibility leaving folks wondering, in an industry where big bucks are often floating around everywhere, if for the right money they would cover up such things as dwarf carrier and genetic defect sires- and how reliable the info they are supposed to be putting out is.....A Lot of distrust floating thru the industry since then...

At least the ladys of the evening admit to what they are- and how much they charge !!!!!!

Members and others can buy a mailing list from any breed association and tell them it's for catalog/advertising mailings. People do it every day.

Info is sold all the time for legitimate purposes. It's just that sometimes the buyer is not legitimate. How would the association know?

I don't see a big problem with a little phone call.

How the heck do you think Breeder sales catalogs get mailed out?

It's not the "Highest Bidder". They have set prices for info.

ALL the breed associations do it.

My problem is not having one phone call selling lighting supplies from Alabama... other than I had a heck of a time understanding how she pronounced her words  .... I dealt with that one, its the rest of the phone calls I'm going to get everyday from everyone else that got the list. The AAA's policy is they don't release the list to anyone except for 1 credit card to which they are paid a royalty, selling the list or releasing it is where I have a problem....

Selling mailing lists is part of any breed associations income.

Furthermore, it's a convenience for the members selling their product.

You'll survive the rest of the phone calls, I'm sure of it.

Sale catalogues come with the Angus journal, either stuck in it, which is a pain in the butt, or in a seperate envelope, we get very few sale catalogues we haven't requested from the breeder directly, but then we're "nobodies" also :D

You get way up in the hills & ' hollers" in these parts and the pure dialect of ' ye old England' & SCOTLAND is still pretty much intact.

It's exposure to all you ' flatlanders' is where and when our language is ' bastardized"
