Heating oil for December delivery rose 1.59 cents, or 0.6 percent, to a record $2.7060 a gallon on the New York Mercantile Exchange at 10:40 a.m. Singapore time. It rose 3.3 percent, to settle at $2.6901 yesterday and is up 61 percent from a year ago.

I burn wood and a little propane.

With corn prices is it really a money saving's to burn corn? Our firewood is basically free other than the hauling but compared to propane it's a great savings. We have alot of forest here and most all of our firewood comes off of fence's and blowdown's.Our rural electric co-op has been cutting right-away's under the power lines they limb all the tree's then pile up the tree's so all I do is load them with the skidsteer then haul them home full lenght cut them up right on the trailer.

Probably not for you, Denny. Not every solution fits every situation. You seem to have yours figured out.

Corn gets about 380,000 btu per bushel. If propane costs less (90,000 btus in 1 gal propane), as it has in the past, it is more economically efficient (not counting the fixed costs of the equipment used---which ends up being an investment).

Seems like you have a better deal with free wood and a little labor. Free markets are about allowing everyone to what is in their best interest.

It better and cheaper to grow your own fuel nomatter . 1 Bushel of corn produces approximately the same amount of heat as 5 gallons of LP or 3.5 Gallons of Fuel Oil. What is your local fuel oil price?
