CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson is apologizing for comparing Social Security to a milk cow but some critics still want him removed from President Obama's deficit commission.
The Wyoming Republican apologized Thursday for saying the program was "like a milk cow with 310 million tits."
He made the comment in an e-mail Monday to Ashley Carson, executive director of the Older Women's League. Simpson also told her to call him when she got "honest work."
He was responding to an article in which she accused Simpson of ageism and sexism.
Simpson's remarks angered the National Organization for Women and the AARP. NOW president Terry O'Neill says Obama should remove Simpson if he won't resign.
