Didn't take the camera today, wouldn't have had much time to use it anyway.
We were blessed with the help of two darn good cowboys today, without them we may have still had the bunch in the yard tonight.
Started to Morrison Meadow after lunch with 200 pairs. Heifers, second calvers, the Brooks blacks and a few old crocks. Went good for the first 2 miles and the all Holy h!!! broke loose.
We were driving into a west breeze with a light sprinkle coming down, Debbie was leap-frogging ahead on the four-wheeler to keep everyone on the road and Wild Man Bob and his son Pat were helping me keep the bunch going along. Cows and calves were paired up fairly well and hiking along at a nice walk.
Debbie was sitting at a trail that leaves the road to a meadow when a sow grizzly with two yearling cubs crossed the road not far in front of her. At this point there is an old cut-block that has regen about 12 feet high and thick as hair on a dog.
The cows got wind of Mrs Bruin. turned tail and basically ran over us on their way back home. We were about an hour gathering cattle out of the cut-block and getting them lined out again.
Ended up with most of them at their destination. Had to haul 3 pairs and 6 calves down that we missed and came home. There is another 4 cows and two calves in the corral tonight, will see what is here in the morning.

Took the crew for a restaurant supper when I hauled them and their mounts home. It has been a long afternoon.

Sorry about the troubles, Gcreek. It seems ironic that we had to cross Bear Creek, and only had to contend with a noisy bridge and rushing water underneath. Kosmo's bride, Sweet Potato, did a fine job spreading hay across the bridge, and the cows never even slowed down to cross it.

Your crew, on the other hand, had to contend with real live genuine bears. :? :???: Glad you overcame the odds and accomplished your mission anyway.

Slept with the window open a bit last night. I woke up thinking a city person might have had trouble sleeping with the pack of coyotes yipping, dog barking at them, Bulls bellering (they sure would like to get to work) dog barking at them, Crickets cricketing, dog barking at them, cows trumpeting, dog barking at them and this morning the birds chirping, dog sleeping. If a Griz had of gone by maybe it would have been quieter. :?

Glad you got it all worked out. Good thing for the bear you weren't up front.

That's too bad about your misadventure, but I'm glad to hear you got it done despite your troubles. Have you lost any calves to bears yet? Our neighbour has lost 3 now, I'm getting nervous as there are a lot of bears around, and on some nights I've heard wolves howling. So far so good though.
