Great American Shrimp

I just saw a commercial on food TV advertising "Great American Shrimp". It was a group of Americans and they were (gasp) PROMOTING US PRODUCT EXCLUSIVELY! What a novel concept! Not only did they push US product, they even alluded that it was superior to foreign product! The audacity of them trying to promote their product over foreign product!

What are they thinking, don't they know that a rising tide lifts all boats? Being men of the sea, you would think they would know that!

go ahead and advertise american beef but somewhere along the line you'll have to have a credible way of proving your claim. you're getting the best of the canadain beef so when it's advertised as canadian and is a premium product i think it should work pretty well.

don, some of my family has been in the shrimp business on many different levels.

The gulf of Mexico produces white, browns, and in the deeper waters royal shrimp. As a bit of a shrimp lover, I can tell you that these shrimp, if you know what you are tasting, are very different from the ones that are farm raised overseas. It is hard to explain but they have a distinct taste to them. My uncle just gave me a freezer chest full of them and I wouldn't even touch the store bought cheap shrimp if served free.

There is a difference in quality foods and since you are going to eat, and the good Lord has made that a pleasurable experience, you might try putting quality over quantity. Life might treat you a lot better and you might be a lot healthier.

What's holding you back? You can advertise Canadian beef all you want right now.

probably because our cattle are already subsidizing your checkoff. seriously, it's the same reason you aren't advertising exclusively american beef. you exported the american slaughter industry to canada. misery loves company.

That makes no sense, Don. If marketing Canadian beef is a good deal, why would the checkoff hold you back? Consider it a BS tax and get selling your beef for a premium.

We're not advertising exclusively US beef because the packers don't want that and the packer-backers disguised as US cattlemen can't figure out the basics of marketing - that and the packers and their lackeys have blocked COOL from being enacted.

I'm not so sure we exported the American slaughter industry - they're still here. They just swallowed the Canadian packing industry with no opposition to speak of. I guess the majority of Canadians felt it was in their best interests to let foreigners take over a Canadian industry.

sorry you missed the sarcasm. i'll try to be less subtle next time.

Don, my aunt wants you to eat more gulf of mexico shrimp.

Personally, I don't, it will leave more for those who appreciate it.

Seriously, there is a difference. All advertising tries to point out these differences or make an imaginary one up for people to feel good about spending more money on their product.

I bet Jason has that skill down.

Don,

My brother and I were just discussing that shrimp doesn't seem to have any flavor - just bland. Come to think of it, I was in Padre last winter and the shrimp was the real deal - I just thought it was the restaurant. thanks for the heads up.

Care to pass along any of your favorite recipes?

Shrimp is the fruit of the sea.
You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it,
There's shrimp kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo, pan fried,
deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp and lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp in potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich.

I guess that's about it.

Whether it is farm raised and artificially pumped with flavor vs. the real thing makes all the difference in the world, Beefman.

I would imagine the same thing can be said about beef.

Hanta Yo and others seem to think so.

Why can not the beef end of our business see that same thing in beef? Is it because of greed?

Yep. damn corporate greed rearing its ugly head again. You really crack me up. I bet you have a pair of those reflective sunglasses on right now, with a little mirror strapped on, and all you can see is a fat guy in a Tyson shirt about to close in on you. Those black helicopters hovering overhead probably have their logo on the side. Your phone tap.......yep, that too. Either that, or the neighbor girl that used to kick your tail on a regular basis went to work for Tyson.

Which is it?

Would you like to wager on your suppositions? Perhaps you feel confident enough in your imagination.

If you don't have anything good to say I guess you have to just make stuff up.

Beefman was trying to bring the level of the discussion to SH's level because he can't win on any other level.

He is just plain wrong.
