Greensburg KS Tornado's turn Political

Like Everything else, it is now time to blame Bush for recent KS Tornado's. Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius "that a deadly Kansas tornado exposed holes in National Guard readiness caused by the Iraq war"

If Sebelius can not utilize the remaining resources we have in KS to help the people in Greensburg then maybe she should step down.

Kind of funny how we do not have enough resources because 60 percent of what we had before the Iraq War is tied up in that war. But what she does not tell is that the remainder 40% of National Guard Resources is more than enough to handle the current crisis in Greensburg.

If national guard has 100 shovels and 60 are in Iraq, I think 40 left over would be enough to dig one hole.

At least Brownback is not taking Sebelius crap! As he points out that we have what is needed to take care of our own.

Hacks me off that my Governor is trying to turn us into some victims like the New Orleans people. She needs to shut her mouth and step up and lead instead of whining like a the Democrat that she is!

Louisiana proved that the only worse than a woman governor is a "Democratic Woman" governor.

Guess Sebelius is substantiating it further.

MS. Sebelius:

What do you think those long lines of vehicles outside Greensburg were, they were not people who were waiting for the Gov. Let me tell you a little secret, they were down home rural people of Kansas who were waiting to get back to their town. When they got there they weren't going to wait for you. They were going to sort through their lives and start the cleanup process so they could rebuild their community. The biggest thing you could do is make sure that the gov does not stand in their way. Make sure you can keep gov out of the way so they can rebuild the main street, reconstruct their houses and start school next fall on schedule. May I suggest that you visit with your fellow Dem Governor from the state of Colo. He could very well give you some pointers to handle a situation like this. It is a sad day that you the Gov of the GREAT STATE of KANSAS do not even know the people and how they handle difficult situations like this. In closing it is your choice to either help these people or run your mouth..............your choice.

Sebelius is an embarrassment to the state. She didn't offer one thing to help, just whining about the trucks and men being in Iraq. This is a time to pull together and help each other and she did just the opposite.

It seems to me the political scenario has gotten out of hand. First the FEMA director is there and tomorow the president. It's almost like the policticans are all afraid of more criticism like they received two years ago. I guess it is good that Greensburg is getting the attention, and maybe some money, but the political clammer is just unreal. Did you ever see a politician ever really help a situation? This is a community that could probably clean itself up faster with tractors and loaders and wheat trucks than with FEMA and government intervention, especially the disgusting governor who just wants to pick a fight to cover her butt for doing nothing.

I'm sure that she was trying to get political but at the same time, I can see where, depending on where the location of the NG units are in the state, missing units could play a part in slow response. Units that might be closer to Greensburg could very well be deployed to Iraq maening that help had to come from farther away. Y'all need to stop being so quick to defend bush and get all the facts first. Maybe the gov. knows WHERE her resources are and aren't better than anyone else does. Also, having spent many years in the Army Reserves, I know that the experienced troops are deployed leaving only a skeleton garrison behind and most of those are troops who are not fully trained yet.

Obviously it was totally political because Brownback is also from Kansas and also knows where the troops are located, difference is he checked with those in charge and did not make it a political issue. He made sure what was needed was available.

Plus we do not need the most experienced fighting troops to set up road blocks, ration food and help look for survivors.

Maybe you should not be so quick to defend a Liberal idiot of a Governor. Just because you hate Bush so much. Most of us would spend more time complaining about Bush and less defending if you Libs did not blame him for every thing that happens.

It's just makes sense that if you send as many Nat'l Guard troops as we have sent....and their equip along with them that you WILL be short when a disaster happens on the home front.

The thing you liberal Bush Bashers fail in your equation is that the NG was not needed especially their equipment. The community and it's surrounding neighbors are taking care of it fine without this equipment. There is only so much room in this town and bringing in excess only slows down the cleanup process and creates a hazard of so much equipment.

Tell yourself over and over till you believe it...............this is not NO.

This Bush Bashing does not wash if you have seen this firsthand.

I'm not Bush bashing.....it's just a fact that if you take away from your ' supply' at home and not replenish it...when you need it..you ain't got it!! It doesn't matter if it's Kansas, Colorado or New York.

In cases like this you can't borrow from another state or unit cause they're in the same shape as you are with missing equip.

PT , if the Nat'l Guard was not needed then why did they even show up in the town, why bother if they knew the town folks would take care of it??

They just didn't go on their own...someone deemed them necessary!

The thing you keep forgetting, it wasn't needed.

Why did it show up you ask.................politicians vying for votes.
If the gov wanted to help they should:
Streamline any paper process in the rebuilding (ie schools etc ).
Coordinate with the local gov in getting the infrastructure up
Coordinate with the locals in a housing plan.
The thing they need to remember is, let the locals do it and be ready if they ask for help. Also it is in a completely diffwerent mode today as it was on Friday. In the haste of the turmoil, everything is crammed into this town and now that it can be re evaluated it has a whole new face on the needs.

This is true, but in times of war we need leaders not whiners! We need a Governor that's first words out of her mouth is that we will be OK. That the people of Kansas will rise up in the face of this catastrophe and take care of our mess.

Way to many victims today and not enough leaders or people that take responsibility for themselves. If my house blows away from a Tornado I will solve my own problems, I do not need some Liberal whining Governor bitching instead of leading. (and a couple years ago I watched from a mile away as it did blow away my neighbors, killing one friend just a mile from me)

I wonder what people that lived during WWII would think of all this whining that goes on over problems that there is no reason to whine? When they were rationed, gas, sugar, meat etc....during their time of war. We can have a war and make very little sacrafice, but at the first sign of just the smallest sacrafice everyone starts whining about it.

PT: Did this happen in YOUR town is why you know for a fact that NO OUTSIDE HELP whatsoever was needed?

I disagree with you.

Most of the people lost what equip they had due to the storm. I saw a back hoe wedged into a tree totally smashed. Several John Deere tractors trashed.

I had a tornado about 13 yrs ago, an F4 -1/2 mile wide, I have plenty of equip and I still needed help & was proud to get it. I'm sure these people of Kansas feel the same.

I am not gonna let you do that Kola. I did not say NO OUTSIDE HELP was needed. The NG bringing equipment is not needed.

PSSSST I'll let you in on a little secret, Greensburg might be a town out in the middle of nowhere, but there is more than one backhoe in the area.
What I am saying is the community in and around Greensburg has s lot of equipment. There are just so many loaders, skidsteers, backhoes, truck and trailers that will logistically fit in this town without getting someone hurt or killed. In fact there is too much hubub in Greenmsburg as we speak.

As far as hubub in town...I could agree with you there.

We had people in this little valley from as far away as Atlanta-, 3 hrs away , looking to see what they could and cloggin up the roads.

In this or any situation like this....you need all the help you can get. I mean actual HELP...not by standers!

I got into a ' verbal' altercation with our local sheriff when he'd not stop the ' tourist' on our road. Threats were exchanged but that was about it.
