We got called out to a fire last night in the pasture beside our north place. It was about 10 last night and we were there about 10:30 and the fire was out except for the flaming cowpies. We mopped up for a while the water truck came home to refill and we drove thru the hills to check for more fires. Looks like we will get another dry storm to night.
Hope we can stay as lucky as we were last night as the wind went dead calm then picked up after the fire was out.

BMR...

Sorry to hear that. I hope your luck changes for tonight and you don't get any fires, and you do get lots of rain.

We've now made a whole week without fire!!! Yippee!

I hope everyone stays safe in this dry, fire season.

Cheers---

I was at the Fair Livestock sale today (11AM) when they were sending trucks to fires all along the Canadian line- several of the guys living along the border had to take off...

More storms following right along the line going thru all day...

Looks like one of the bigger ones may have gone right thru Big Muddy country this afternoon....

Temp is 103- and the wind is only about 25 mph

It's poppin' off to the north of me. I think Tap is setting out watching tonight and I know he was last night. We had a lot of lightning northwest of us last night, but none too close. I don't know if this cloud is headed south or what? Might have to stay up for a spell tonight also. Kind'a starting to wish some rain would come with the clouds! Seems like my tan is good enough and it's about time to put somer rust on my skin.

Yep Jinglebob, I am in for a while as the first storms rolled thru here, and only started one fire NW of me. Well, I think it was two, but they burned together. It burned enough, but they got it out before it got too big. Sounded like some bales, and maybe machinery was even lost.

Round two may be coming in a bit, so I better get ready for it.
We got enough of a shower on part of our ranch to hold a fire down for the night. I think so anyway. :???:

John Pulasky said it was a wild night in Montana. We could see the storm off to the north. Pulasky said it came from Idaho, went up through Broadus and Powderville and over to Terry and Richey. Missed us completely. No wind, nothing, just a really hot day. There was some 1" hail at Broadus and Powderville got 1.3" inches of rain. I didn't hear what happened at Terry, but there was a LOT of lightening over that way.

He said 60 mph winds at Missoula kicked off some fires over that way.

The forcast is more of the same tonight.

The weather radar shows where the storm that went thru north of Wolf Point and up toward Plentywood dumped 2-3" of rain in areas...

We got 30 drops- but the light show in the east about 10PM was spectacular......

We were fortunate day before yesterday we got another 2 1/4 inches of rain. Makes it terribly humid, but I'll take humid over dry any day.

Wild night for lightening last night all around us. Scouted up thru the hills until midnight then it looked to have passed then at 1AM the wife called and thought we should take a drive up onto the hills to the south and see if her mother place was OK. No fires that I heard of last night but the one from the night before started up again but I guess they got it out cause thay never called for oure fire tank.
Hard to work all day and run around all night.

Big Muddy- Its heading your way again tonite...Storm moved in both south and north of where we were combining about 6PM-- Whale of a light show...On my way home about 8PM I saw two fires burning near Nashua that the fire dept. was working on- one was down in the timber...But I'll bet there were 100's more east down the Missouri river the way that lightning was putting on a show... Also saw a lot of flashes in my rear view mirror to the north...

Couldn't luck out and have it burn out the remaining dismal wheat crop

My daughter said they had one fire today on both sides of Hwy 24S that closed the highway for awhile- but that they eventually got rain to help control it....

I did have to find the windshield wipers on the new pickup tonight for the first time- rained for about 5 miles coming back to town...At least it cooled things down and the little bit of rain makes things smell good....

Our area has been spared from the real big fires so far, but we got home about 1 AM this morning from the flare up of the other day's fire. The state boys took it over after yesterday morning from the locals, and they got caught on the wrong side when it broke out. By the time any of them could get to the head of the fire, it had burned up some ranch corrals, barns, outbuildings, and only spared the house and garage. Then it went on another quarter mile and nearly burned a second ranch. Some neighbors had arrived by that time, and they managed to save things around there. We were a ways from the fire, so when we got there they had gotten the grass fire out, and all that was left to do was to set on things. It was plenty bad, but could have been worse. There was another fire in the timber just across the line into MT, but they seem to have that one captured too. It was a tough one to get into I hear.

We were 101 degrees yesterday, and the humidity was very low. Sounds like 2 more days of this, then it may cool off. Sounds good to me.

Man alive, Tap. That is terrible news. Your area has really been in the sights of some awful lightening storms. We've been missed by the moisture, but by the terrible lightening storms too. So far anyway.

I hope things quiet down for you. Stay safe.

Sure sorry to hear buildings were lost. But as you say, it could
have been worse, as no lives were lost.

Sorry to hear this. Please know you all are in our thoughts and prayers. Anything you all need? With the burning of buildings, I'm sure essentials were lost...if you'll let us know what's needed, we can start a collection.

If folks need places to go with livestock, we've amassed a decent list. A neighbor to the south of us started the year without any pasture, so they started a terrific list, and we've tried to keep it up, but have not done as good of a job of detailing additions as they did, PM me if you'd like a copy and I'll get one to you, and you can distribute. Also, in terms of feed, remember both NDSU and SDSU have feedlists, that have been extremely helpful to us and others in this predictament. Here is a link:

http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/feedlist/

You can link to SDSU's and other state's from this link.

Keep your heads up, and most importantly be safe.

Again, sorry...

Here is the synopsis on the fire I was at yesterday. I am sort of skeptical that is burned this much country, but I never saw the whole fire either.
It is out and contained now, with a good fire line around it.
NEW Stoney Creek (South Dakota Division of Forstry): 5,000 acres at zero percent contained. The fire is located 17 miles north of Camp Crook. Fire runs and spotting were reported.
Information: Visit http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/fire/fire_info/index.html

The ranch that burned was leased out, and I don't think that it was used much anymore, but it was kept up, and somewhat modern. No one lives in the house either to my knowledge. It still was a shame for it to burn. The other ranch threatened was occupied, and they sure had a scare.

Thanks for the concern for these folks, but I don't think as far as pasture that any one ranch was effected too badly. It burned on several ranches.
