This will probably make some criminals think twice! Should reduce crime a bit!

One man was killed and another seriously wounded in a shootout inside a Miami Burger King on Tuesday, officials said.

Police said a man wearing a ski mask walked into the store at Biscayne Boulevard and 54th Street and demanded money from a clerk.

A customer, who has a concealed weapons permit, pulled a gun, said Officer Jeff Giordano, a Miami police spokesman.

The customer and robber exchanged fire.

The robber was shot dead at the scene.

The customer, who had several gunshot wounds, was taken to Ryder Trauma Center in serious but stable condition, said Lt. Ignatius Carroll, a Miami Fire Rescue spokesman.

At about 4 p.m., officials got several 911 calls reporting people shot inside the Burger King.

That area's getting bad, I have family in Homestead, about 15 minutes away. My family is some of the few farmers left in Dade County, the police are recomending people put safe rooms in their homes. He's looking at moving some of his money into one of our local banks here in Maine. That area is a prime example of this housing bubble. Development has been gobbling up farm land, sprawling from Miami. I've stood in his fields. On one side you have the Everglades, on the other you have the urban sprawl. Recently, before the burst of the bubble, land was starting to be sold by the square foot. One of the things I like about the NASCAR track (Miami Homestead) is that it's surrounded by fields still used for growing crops.

The advantage of Homestead is that sometimes in the winter they will be the only ones able to produce fresh produce. At least until we started widely importing these things. They can make some serious cash when they don't get a freeze but belle glades does. Back in the 90's they were able to get $60/box for tomatoes with about 300 ac planted. That helped buy a nice place on the keys with a good fishing boat. Some years you loose money. There have been times when the market price is less then the harvest cost and it has to be left to rot. When they first moved down there there was almost nobody living down there. Now it's packed, it's a whole other world then what I'm used to.

It won't make a big difference, but does IMO, it might make some think twice about walking in and trying to rob, with a gun, when there is a chance of someone being present that is a better shot than the one with bad intentions!
