Bush: My Brother Jeb Would Make a Great President
Wednesday, May 10, 2006

ORLANDO, Florida — President Bush suggested Wednesday that he would like to see his family's White House legacy continue, perhaps with his younger brother Jeb as the chief executive.

The president said Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is well-suited for another office and would make "a great president."

"I would like to see Jeb run at some point in time, but I have no idea if that's his intention or not," Bush said in an interview with Florida reporters, according to an account on the St. Petersburg Times Web site.

The president said he had "pushed him fairly hard about what he intends to do," but Jeb has not said.

"I have no idea what he's going to do. I've asked him that question myself. I truly don't think he knows," Bush said.

Jeb Bush, 53, will end his second term as governor in January. His brother George ends his second presidential term in January 2009. Neither can seek re-election because of term limits.

Jeb Bush has repeatedly said he is not going to run in 2008.

But even his own father said no one believes him when he says he's not interested in running at some point. Former President George H.W. Bush told CNN's "Larry King Live" last year that he would like Jeb Bush to run one day and that he would be "awfully good" as president.

The Florida governor laughed when asked about his father's comments last June. "Oh, Lord," he said and shook his head no. "I love my dad."

The brothers Bush appeared together Tuesday during the president's visit to the Tampa area. Gov. Bush was waiting on the tarmac when Air Force One arrived and greeted the president with a politician's handshake and "Welcome to Florida." The president brushed aside the formality and playfully adjusted his younger brother's necktie.

Jeb Bush introduced his brother at a retirement community in Sun City Center, where the president touted the new Medicare prescription drug benefit as the governor watched intently from a politically appropriate seat on stage right. They had a private lunch together with political supporters, then visited a fire station and appeared together before television cameras to express concern about wildfires that were blazing across the state.

The governor was not with the president during his visit to The Puerto Rican Club of Central Florida in Orlando Wednesday — George W. Bush's final stop on a three-day trip to the state. But the president was sure his brother still got some attention.

"Yesterday I checked in with my brother," President Bush said as he took the stage. "Make sure everything's going all right. I'm real proud of Jeb. He's a good decent man and I love him dearly."

I don't think one family should be allowed to control the White House like that IF Jeb runs and wins.

It's like a monarchy then..... not good.

There should be limits....on how many in the family, I'm talking the parents and F1 kids....should be allowed to hold such a high office.

There are limits already in place. I think if the people elect another Bush for the next however many years it should be allowed. I'd say the same about a demo-crat as well. Just as long as the person or persons in a particular family are elected by the people.

I guess what your saying is that it should not be allowed that a demo-crat or Republican be elected President for more than two terms? :???: I mean basically each party represents a family if you will, and if one party gets elected President continuously then thats a monarchy huh? :?

I don't think it should be allowed for any party....any family....anybody. It's just not fair and just. It's a monopoly of a sorts.

If you do have several members of a political family run and maybe get elected to office....there should be some sort of time bracket in place to keep it from being a succession of one after the other. Say make it 8 yrs between ...that way it gives someone else the chance for 2 terms in between.

So instead of having elections you would rather just appoint a Republican for 8 yrs. then a democrat for 8, then a Repbulican, then a dem and on and on and on? :( Our leader is supposed to be elected by the people he or she will lead. Screw being fair, life ain't fair and you know that.

How bout ted kennedy? How many years does he get to serve? Our system works fine just the way it is. If the people of this country want to elect a certain Party or Family to the office then it's up to them to do so. That what makes the system work. Monarchy, monopoly or whatever else you call it as long as it's by the people who cares. If we did it the "fair" way who would be in charge of "appointing" our next leader?

NO NO NO NO......you know exactly what I'm saying and I'm in way too good of a mood today to get into a quarrel with you!!!!!!

I said nothing about appointing anybody....you know that.

Ted Kennedy's not Prez. I'm mainly talking Presidential aspects here.

I truly think term limits/rules, etc should be the rule for dog catchers to Supreme Court.

Hope you have wonderful day....as mine has turned out pretty good today. :D

Of course. Just what we need. Another law.
It is up to the people to choose...if they don't want a family to hold the Presidency, then it won't happen.

Please get over the "there atta be a law" mentality. That's partly what is wrong now...trying to protect everyone with a law of some sort has gotten this country in trouble. What about being responsible for YOUR OWN ACTIONS.

Good grief. Read the instructions to something. It has to be covered so well for the idiots, that it is ridiculous. Iron Warning: If you touch the bottom of the iron when it is hot, you could get burned.
