Heard a day or two ago that is officially a USA record size.
The guy finding it said he could have picked up bigger ones!
WE drove through the are a few days after and were surprised at the lack of damage to the grass, trees, and crops. Probably more that it showed, but didn't look bad at all. Most likely there weren't many hail stones. Maybe they all clumped together to make a few giant ones!!!!
There were some homes with pretty severe damage, tho.
Vivian is about 50 miles from us, so we were blessed to get no hail.....but also got no rain! Did get a fair one this evening, maybe 1.5" or so according to 'the neighbors' a quarter mile away. Brings us to nearly 10" for the YEAR to date.
Grasshoppers have eaten most of whatever has grown. Haven't mowed our prairie grass 'lawn' in over a month with hoppers keeping it chopped off. Stripped many trees and shrubs, too. Should have poisoned them, but hate to harm other good critters and thought nature would take care of it, and boom, they went from little half inch long guys to huge in a couple of weeks. And dozens per square yard, for sure.
