You know, see a cute young guy, casually lean out the window of my pimped out ( by pimped out read rusted out) 1986 Chevy 3/4 ton and say "hey baby want some candy"...
LOL

Sure I do. Soooo, when are you coming by?

Oh hell, I forgot you said young and cute. Oh well, back to the ol' drawing board................

Well Lilly let me explain Lutefisk to you....its fish thats soaked in LYE,yes LYE.Our DIL's family has it as a tradional supper Xmas eve. One year she brought some for us to taste...my son warned me NOT to taste it but I thought heck how can anything be THAT bad,so put it in my mouth, immediatly my brain starts screaming at my mouth" SPIT IT OUT,SPIT IT OUT :!: :!:.Yup,the texture of thick snot, taste :cry2: :cry2: :cry2: .Some crazy people on here may try telling you its really good,NO it is NOT....DOUBLE YECK!!! Lefse on the other hand is awesome.

No of course I'm not sick :) Too much chocolate, my eyeballs are still twitching from last nights chocolate orgy. I dumped Braxtons goodies around the two of us and well we just kept eating until we blacked out :)

Lutefisk is HORRIBLE, don't let anyone tell you it is good. Think pickled herring, now dunk it in Lye and consume :) (i think i'm gunna be sick.....)
Combla is another one that I think was invented strictly as a joke. Combla is grated potato that is shredded and mixed with flour. The baseball sized ball is then dropped into hard boiling water for a couple hours.

ewwwwwww..... I get to eat it with a smile every Christmas and easter.

Yup Lefse is excellent :)

The old German Mennonite community has a big Schmeckfest feed up here every year-- Now thats where you can dig into some good food- headcheese, bloodsausege, Bratwurst, liverwurst, sauerbraten & kraut, rhubarb and strawberry kuchens, some of the best eyewatering horseradish..

If you're like my wife tho, sometimes its better eating it without knowing what its made of  but you can definitely raise your cholesterol level....

Yup OT,German foods the best. Gregs family both sides are German,my Mom in law always did a German feed Xmas eve. My MIL showed me how to do some of her favs. In Nov. gregs brothers come hunting and I do a german night, smoked pork hocks with strudla, homemade saurkraut and apple, fried spatzel and in our house it has to be plum kucken...mmmm good stuff.

Judith our DIL talks about that potatoe suff, but she loves it,but then she loves lutefisk too. :(

I remember reading about Lutefiskwhen I was a youngun.. They had an article in the Chicago Tribune Magazine and someone was writing about visting the home farm.. WEll they described how they made it. Another article dexcribed the process of Hagis... After reading them both, hearing that lutefisk can glow in the dark (That had to be made up) I decided that I ever faced the choice of eating lutefisk or Haggis I would shott myself in the head instead.

You need to be up here in one of the old Rez homes someday when they are boiling the s*** out of the tripe....The smell almost makes you never want to eat again-- altho tripe soup is really not that bad as long as you don't have to be around when its made....

But I think thats a dying art too...Used to be if you had any road or railroad killed cattle you put in one call to the Reservation and 10 carloads showed up to butcher them out-- Now everything is from the Fast Food or Pizza place...... :(

plum kucken...mmmmmm I'm coming to your house for German dinner night :) Tasty fare,
Do you have the appropriate parking for my broom? :) Gotta keep the seat warm, nothing like jumping on one of these foreign jobs when the handle is frozen.

nr, I dont think our family ever did the beer soup thingy but no one in our ranks has touched alcohol for at least 4 generations ( I think I am the only one that has a glass of wine on occasion) so it may have been just a family choice. My family doesnt even bake with booze. Backwards wieners :)
