I just read something on another site that made me think...Here it is...

"My heart goes out to all the families and friends of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their life for this country. This is not a good day for them, it rekindles their heartbreak and memories of heartbreak.
My heart also goes out to all the wounded who face a lifetime of struggle to cope with their injuries.
My friend Larry Scott, founder of VA Watchdog.org once said about the politicians and VA administration officials who show up at the war memorials to lay wreaths and use this day as a photo op to make flowery speeches about the sacrifices vets have made, he said, "It is easier and much cheaper to praise the dead veterans than it is to care for the living ones."
Anthony J. Principi, former secretary of the VA said,
"History is littered with governments destabilized by masses of veterans who beleived that they had been taken for fools by a society that grew rich and fat at the expense of their hardship and suffing."
So, make visit to a veterans hospital sometime and tell them that you appreciate their sacrifice. Don't bother buying them a cup of coffee, they can get coffee free of charge, just hand them a wad of cold hard cash money, that's what they need the most. "

I don't totally agree with this in that I in no way want to take away from remembering those that died. However, I do think we rely on our government to take care of the wounded Vets. So, the assumption that they are being taken care of has resulted in forgetting about the day to day needs....Truly a shame when it does not happen....

I am not sure slipping them a $20.00 would take care of those needs or that most would be comfrtable getting it. However, making sure that our government is giving them first class health care, that is truly what they need...

Come to think of it....Many Republicans are all for Educatio Vouchers that would make Schools compete and get better.....Why not the same for the Health Care of our Vets? If a VA hospital is not up to snuff, the Vets could go to a different Hospital....

Just my thoughts,

First off....Thank you to all our Vets...and those still on duty now, we appreciate what you've done/do so very much.

Secondly.....I kinda have a gripe. Our little school had two bad weather days, where the kids missed school this winter, when we had so much ice. They schedule in bad weather days before the school year ever starts!!!! Then they decided to make the kids make those two days up anyway and added two days on......Today, and tomorrow. Even tho graduation was Friday night, and the seniors aren't required to come to school these two days, the rest of the students have tests on these two days......Makin a kid go to school on a National Holiday!!!!!!! Lil Lilly is exempt from todays classes for good grades and doesn't hafta take them. Tomorrow she'll go. But that's neither here nor there....Lots of kids are at school today. They could have just as easily scheduled the days for tuesday and wednesday.

Thirdly......a friend of ours that served 8 years durin Desert Storm and some after, broke his arm the other day. They have no insurance, and he has a decent job, but can't work with the broke arm....he puts up cell phone towers. They were quoted between $17,000 and $20,000 to do the surgery needed to fix his arm. I asked, "Why isn't he goin to the VA hospital?" So they filled out all his paperwork, and were told, "we can't help you, you make too much money" Scuse me but he served, durin active combat, and was honorably discharged when he'd done two tours. That's rediculous!!!!!!!! It shouldn't matter how much money you make on your job......by golly he served our country and the VA should be there for his medical when needed. Then......a week later he got laid off.........VA still wouldnt do anything...meanwhile he's sittin there with an arm that's broke in 5 places...that needs surgery to fix.....Finally they found a dr that would do it for $7500.....still money they didnt have. They borrowed from two people, and the bank......

Ok..I"m done gripin now.

You're right Lily.

I've a buddy who was in Vietnam and has several injuries that linger on to haunt him and he's in the same boat about " making too much " for the VA qualifications.

The VA is not the 'cure all' that a lot of people think it is. It's broken down.

Dittos! Yesterday I had a chance to visit a relative who had been a contractor in Iraq, and who's son had been stationed in Iraq.
