Sounds a lot like what we have here, Jersey Lily. Mashed potatoes, veggies, turnip grated and boiled, sometimes cranberry jelly with the turkey and dressing, pumpkin pie, apple pie, raspberry custard pie, man there was so much stuff there yesterday at our family dinner that I coulda et myself sick!

There were six pies on the table! We ate our Thanksgiving dinner yesterday because it worked out the best schedulewise. But today I am still thankful!

Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadians.

Our standard desserts are pumpkin and pecan pies and no mashed turnips.
Usually stringbeans or peas. Our mashed potatoes have added to them eggs, bread crumbs, sauteed onions, melted butter and parsley all mixed together and baked a bit to pouff the potatoes. We call it potato filling but don't stuff the turkey with it.

When did Canada begin having Thanksgiving Day? I believe ours was begun as a national holiday by Abe Lincoln.

Although celebrated long before that Canadian Thanksgiving was declared a national holiday in 1879...Ours celebrates a Bountiful Harvest.
