Hardin, Mt. wants Gitmo prisoners

Bring them in. Sure - go right ahead!

Easy access for the lawyers that want to make a name for themselves.

Build the pity story with a left leaning media.

Make friends with a few well financed left leaning "rights groups".

Tell their sad story over and over and over on all major media outlets.

Find a friendly judge.

Set up a nice friendly jury.

Get a few friendly politicians involved.

Next thing they will be living in town.

Not a bright move in my opinion.

But then again - what do I know - I just deal with folks like this in the field.

Trust me you do not want them in your country.

Keep them out of country - or you WILL come to regret it.

That is something I have to question. If these detainees that are the worst of the worst to the point their own countries will not take them back what in the h*ll are the people in Hardin thinking? I'm sure they think the prison was built so a prisoner can't get out but gee I think all prisons are built with that in mind and look at how many times you hear of a prison Break. Do they really want these Worst of the Worst types in their neighbors. I think there has to be a safer way to create economic development for the community.

Forget prison break think about the network they will develop. once there they can write letters and have visitors and then they have "church" OMGAWD
All that will change is they will go from being the soliders to the planners.

Some within academic and public quarters have stated, oftentimes forcefully, that the spread of radical Islam within the correctional facilities of the United States and other states, poses an inherent and immediate threat to the security of these countreis. The goal of this paper is to examine the actual extent of the threat posed by the spread of radical Islam within the prison systems of the United States and other states

Tam- you sound just like all the "not in my backyard" folks that fought tooth and nail against building a prison at the old AFB-- so the company built it in Shelby--who is just happy as can be with it- and the jobs- and the huge economic boost for the community...And the old AFB still sits almost empty- with $Billions of buildings and houses rotting away....

Or the "not in my backyard" folks that want cheap fuel- but no refineries built in their community- or those that want cheap electricity- but don't want those ugly windmills in their county- or coal fired plants...

Ask not what your country can do for you- ask what you can do for your country.

Except- again this isn't your country anymore is it - you left it.... :???:

OT hmmmmm how many people do you know working at state or Fed prisons? I am sure a bunch and they are top level, right??? OK ask them what is the number one problem................here let me help you out,
DRUGS and who brings the drugs in?????? The guards, who happen to be younger and easily influenced. They get "conned" into bringing drugs, cell phones, take letters out so not to be read by mail workers, ect.....
Look at any Texas town with a prison and you will see a higher than normal drug problem.

As for Tam has she renouced her Citizenship???? NO so get OVER it she is still an AMERICAN.

Been to GTMO a couple of times, nice climate, really not a bad place. Short of having wasted their asses where they were found being the better option, I think leaving them where they are would be better than bringing them on US soil where all the media attention and access to legal "rights" they in no way deserve is certainly going to happen. The world IS turning upsidedown.

Oldtimer who is the Economic Developement officer that told Hardin they should invest in building another prison in Montana? If the prison has been sitting empty for two years was it really needed? Wouldn't it have been smarter to invest the community's money into something that was NEEDED?

BTW Oldtimer Coronach has a coal fires power plant and I guess you can consider that our backyard since our kids rode the school bus to Coronach. I have no problem with the plant as many good people work there. Sask. also has a large Wind mill field I have seen it what I didn't see is the blades that are to produce power TURNING. But I have no problem with them I'm just glad our government has realized they are not a reliable source of energy before they poured billions into Windmills only to have them all sitting there not turning. BTW I think I would rather see an oil rig on the corner of a quarter section of native prairie than to see that quarter section broke up to plant corn for bio diesel  OH and Sask also has a Refinery As that is where most of the fuel sold in Northeast Montana comes from.

And Yes Oldtimer as you have pointed out countless times  I left my homeland SHAME ON ME. But like I said countless times  what happens in the US doesn't stay in the US. And if you bothered to study history say back as far as 1876 you would know those fleeing US justice in Montana tend to head North. Did you forget Sitting Bull hid out in Canada after the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Gee just where was the battle Oldtimer wasn't around Hardin? :? I even remember a few Old time outlaws hiding out in the Muddy that were wanted by the lawmen in Gee where was it again Oh I remember Valley Country. And if my memory serves me well they were caught by the mounties station just a mile south of where we live and escorted back to GLASGOW to stand trial. Is'nt that where you now live Oldtimer? If you can personally guarantee Canadians that we will not have these detainees breaking out and fleeing to the north then I guess we can let it drop but I doubt anyone can guarantee what will happen with them so I'll keep voicing an Opinion. OK with you Oldtimer :x

If they "have" to be released.

Why spread them out geographically? It makes no sense, give them what they want, send them back to their "brothers" in the Swat region of Pakistan.

The 17 Chinese Uighurs were captured in Pakistan also, they fled China to be with their "brothers" also. Give them what they want.

Keep pushing them out of Afghanistan towards the Swat region, and squeeze them from both sides.

Let them live in their own prison that they have created.

Ironically (excepting the Rez) the worst time we had for drugs in this area of the State- (and the time I spent many hours sneaking around Tams backyard   )- was back in the 80's when the seismic and oil activity of the Williston Basin was at its highest...And one of the bigger coke busts was "Animal's" place just south of Plentywood- and mostly involved oil people- and distribution by oil connected people....

Notice how Oldtimer, a "US" lawman was in "My backyard" making that big drug bust but when they want to set up a Gitmo Detainee prison within 350 miles of that same back yard I don't seem to have a right to speak up about it in his opinion.

If I ever caught Oldtimer sneeking around my back yard you can bet I would adopt the same practice the US border patrol have "shoot first and ask questions later" (Note to self load the shotgun with buckshot)

We lived near Deer Lodge for 18 years. Deer Lodge is home to the Montana State Prison. I can tell you, as one woman spoke about in the video in the first post here, the people on the outside associated with the prisoners can cause any number of problems.

And for awhile, the prisoners wives, kids, etc. had to get their welfare money from the county that they came from so could not move to Powell County to get their beneifts. Well, that changed (there's the word CHANGE again :x ) and many, if not most, moved to Deer Lodge and was a burden on the welfare system there--and of course the taxes...

Another problem with Deer Lodge, it was located between 2 colleges;
U of M and MSU. So young folks in law school were trying to make a name for themselves...and of course there is the ACLU which is alive and well in Montana. Made for some interesting times. And the Prison Riot...
they wouldn't let the news media in until the bloody mess was cleaned up, as they didn't want the viewers to get upset. I know that FIRST-HAND and FOR SURE.

So what is to stop any and all of this happening and on a more vicious scale and with a lot more to lose? Hardin is on the Indian Reservation and
they are used to a lot of things, but no one is prepared for prisoners like those housed at Gitmo.

I really think I will call the Mayor of Hardin and read him some of the things you all have posted here. Someone is not in their right mind about this. :???: :x

I'll bet if the legislature proposed moving the State Prison out of the Deer Lodge Valley-- the folks of Deer Lodge and the Valley would be up in arms- as that is their number 1 income source for their economy...

In fact they were screaming about and fighting for the Regional Prisons that were put in Shelby, Glendive, Great Falls, etc....And one of the reason the Legislature spread them out- was too let other areas of the states economy benefit from the jobs and increased income...

So, instead of fighting crime and terrorists they are embracing it!

They need to find new jobs, build a bridge to no where, or something!

Build some TVs, or DVD players, anything, but why would you "try" to make money off of criminals.

Get back to basics, show how you can make an income by selling a valuable/wanted/needed product to those that are willing to pay for it.

Set an example. Don't embrace the problem!

Sadley there is always a price to pay, OT.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

One funny incident that came to me in this thread...our neighbor lady was a fiesty close-to-80 woman that lived at the foot of the mountain by herself. A prisoner escaped and managed to get as far as her place.
She was returning from grocery shopping when he accosted her and demanded her vehicle. She said, "carry the cat food in before you go, would you, please. It's pretty heavy for me to carry." So he did...

They found her vehicle the next week and it was totalled, but they caught the guy...
