I aint never got the hang of straw hats, just dont feel right, ever summer I go thru this same ole routine, gotta be polically correct and get me a straw hat, guess they just dont stretch like a felt, cuz I aint ever found one that was a comfort to wear.
I believe this year IM gonna stick with my plan,go to the general store and get me a plain ole straw /work hat that will keep the sun off my head and that I can use to swat flys.
I go to the hat shop looking for a straw work hat & wind up paying too much for a piece of straw I dont use, those ole straws can get pricey $100?..............good luck
PS I sure aint gonna wear a seed corn cap like jinglebob :D

Well all be Haymaker. I bet Jinglebob wears a pair of pliers strapped to his striped bib overalls too. You just can't ever tell what a guy will do when he's trying to make an image for himself.

I think you are right about straw hats not fitting as well Haymaker. I have two, and neither are a tenth as comfortable as my felts. I do like the durability of a palm leaf hat, as they are hard to wreck. Course we don't get enough rain around these parts to disfigure or disshape a palm leaf. lol.

Taking the striped bib overalls a little further..

I heard that a striped ass canary is a farmer that goes into a place of business, picks up an item and looks at the price fixed underneath, and goes scheewww!(whistling) to himself.

I can see you guys had waaaay to much time on your hands. And I'll have you know I have wore striped bib overhauls before, but it's been a looooooonnnnnnngggggg time ago. And I didn't have no dang pliers on my belt, they were in the pocket made for pliers that come with all good striped bib overhauls. :p

I do have a Victornox multitool strapped on my belt most of the time now. This is the second pair I've had( lost the first pair  ) and as I was made in Switzerland and the pliers were too, I know they are the best you can get. :p

And Haymaker, if you would take the time to try on all the straw hats until you find one that fits juuuusssstttt right, then you would find one that fits. Dumb ol' cracker! Oh did I say that out loud?!

Don't ever trust the sizes in straw hats. And I agree with Tap about the palm leaf hats. Tho' some of these young guys are so cheap, they wear them in the winter too. Sure wish I could find one of the heavier stiffer kinds, like I had a few years ago.

I had a guy in Mexico tell me that they are not made from palm leaves, but from wheat straw, if I understood his mangled English. What is it with these Mexicans in Mexico who don't speak good ol' American?

Nope, I wear my cap year 'round.......helps to keep my hair under control...........

The guys found some nice heavy palm leaf hats at a western wear store in Silver City last summer......in fact, Al is wearing his today, and the wind is blowing 40 mph......it stays put nicely.

If anyone wants, I can go buy up a bunch and distribute them to ya'll.....

I get to thinking of the shapes of hats sometimes, and how it can be a regional thing. The panhandle Texans that you see seem to think that rolled up like a hard shell taco is the new style. You don't get much shade I wouldn't think from the sides pinched up to the crown. Then there is the flat hat bunch. They must not get as much wind as we do, as they are hard to keep on in our breezes. I guess I like mine in the middle somewhere, but I do feel like a big geek in a ballcap. Almost NEVER wear one of those. Scotch caps in the winter I deal with, and they make your hair smell terrible.

Oh, the downfalls of this business.

Producers has been there for years, they just did a major remodel addon, overhaul. I ain't been up there since they opened the new deal up. We are a member of the Coop, but their prices aren't that great on feed. Some of the smaller local feed stores give ya a better price on feed than they do. Bout the only time we go up there is when we need horse stuff. They have a really big tack selection.

Our local John Deere dealership, Coufal Prater in Navasota, just added on to their store, doubled their floor size, and now have a full feed store and all the foo foo to go with it. What's funny bout that, is ground is breaking on the other side of highway 6 and a Tractor supply is goin in. Guess Coufal Prater thought they better get on the ball and get some customers loyal before the TS is done.

I like the cattlemans block, but I have em flatten out the brim somewhat, I like just a lil turn in the brim, need as much shade as you can get with this TX sun, those brims turned up touchin the crown aint for me,as a matter of fact I think they look like hell..........good luck
