But Gerald Molen, a co-producer of “2016,” told THR that the charges are politically motivated.
“In America, we have a long tradition of not doing what is commonly done in too many other countries — criminalizing dissent through the selective enforcement of the law,” he said.
The producer argues it’s obvious that D’Souza is being singled-out over an “an alleged minor violation.” He also connected what he believes to be political targeting in this case to the targeting done by the IRS.
“In light of the recent events and the way the IRS has been used to stifle dissent, this arrest should send shivers down the spines of all freedom-loving Americans,” Molen added.

Gregg Phillips of Voters Trust and Catherine Engelbrecht of True the Vote discovered that an organization called Demos, which is funded by leftwing billionaire George Soros, has published a document detailing how the Obamacare law is written in such a way as to help Democrats get elected by using the healthcare law to register multimillions of low income citizens to vote.
So thoroughly does the voter registration drive permeate the Obamacare law that Phillips declared, "I think {it} is the biggest voter registration fraud scheme in the history of the world."
The Demos document is titled, "Building a Healthy Democracy: Registering 68 Million People to Vote Through Health Benefit Exchanges." The 18-page document details how, exactly, the new healthcare law will used primarily as a voter registration scheme.
For example, the second segment of the document, as noted in the table of contents, is titled, "The ACA Will Enroll 68 Million Individuals." But the manner in which this will be accomplished, along with the plan to target certain specific groups for registration, has watchdogs crying foul and legal analysts warning that the scheme violates the boundaries of the law.
The new healthcare law specifies that when a low income voter signs up for an exchange and qualifies for subsidies to purchase a health plan, they are automatically registered to vote without being asked if they wish to register, particularly if they qualify to be funneled into the Medicaid program. In order for such a citizen to remain unregistered to vote, they must specifically ask that their name be removed after the fact -- an act that Phillips says is a clear violation of federal election law, according to Breitbart, which provides a detailed analysis of the intricacies of the process.
