Head Start rules and regulations

My sis-in-law works for Head Start. She had her own day-care business
but regulations forced her out of that business. She loves kids and wanted
to keep working with them so she hired on to Head Start. She has worked
there going on 7 years.

She says now that the paperwork and bureaucracy has gotten so bad
all she has time for is the paperwork which doesn't leave enough time for
her to spend with the kids. She is pretty frustrated. Those kids are
so lucky to have her cuz she truly loves them and will go out of her way for them.
But she doesn't know how long she can stand doing her job the way things
stand currently. And she sees no sign of it getting better.

bureaucrats have to justify their jobs.. and faced with reports of the program failures only know of one way to address it.. with more money so they need paperwork.. to justify spending more money.

in your area the staff may be well equipped and able to handle the program without the bureaucrats,.. but out here many who work in head start were fired from acorn, planned parenthood clinics and other assorted community action groups .. and treat the children like a paycheck..

it is sad.. but many poor kids would get better care from a baby sitter..

the program should have been placed under the department of ed.. at least then the kids would eventually see some education and maybe even meager results..

I like head start.. and feel it could be worth the money and effort. but not under the bureaucracy it is now..

Head Start: A Tragic Waste of Money

Created in 1965, the comprehensive preschool program for 3- and 4-year olds and their parents is meant to narrow the education gap between low-income students and their middle- and upper-income peers. Forty-five years and $166 billion later, it has been proven a failure.

In fact, not a single one of the 114 tests administered to first graders — of academics, socio-emotional development, health care/health status and parenting practice — showed a reliable, statistically significant effect from participating in Head Start.

while the children may not be better.. at least many are not worse off by it.. in my opinion that is a success when it comes to liberal programs..
