R2 you never seemed to care when the Unions and others were contributing heavy to Obama. Selective hypocrisy at its best!

I can't speak for Reader, but you are aware that unions generally fight to get better working conditions for working class people, aren't you?

Big Pharma fights to maximize profits and make sure any kind of reform doesn't threaten such profits.

Give me a politician indebted to labor unions any day over one who owes favors to big corporations.

Oh, yeah, you're the guy who wants to keep all the super-rich around because they are so wonderful for our society.

This is the perfect example of captialism an free enterprise you all are talking about. When you have the money you can buy what you want, even a politician.

I was a union member for nearly 10 years. The union did some good for it's members, but there were many times where they bit the hand that fed them and protected losers who should of been fired. In my experience, the union hurt it's members just as much as helped.

You know what Reader, I'll agree with you on that. I'll then add that I'm sick of the multitudes of companies that drown Washington in cash to buy politicians of both parties. These "donations" have got to stop. It's inexcusable.

I guess it's okay that the pharmaceutical industry and other deep pocket corporations are determining the future of our healthcare alternatives by buying our elected officials per APlus.

Cuz I didn't find a similar article about unions and post it.

I've said before that I work in an industry which did not allow unions and have little or no knowledge of or interactions with unions. On the other hand I am aware of the kind of money that Pharma spends to push drugs in every way possible and I object to the United States having higher priced drugs and having drugs pushed on people who don't need them by $100M ad campaigns, currying favors with the doctors, and buying the Congress.

Reader, you might want to start doing some research on these "special interest" groups. maybe look into the Appollo group, they helped write the Stimulus bill.

You people are being disingenuous at best concerning labor unions. How many millions of dollars did labor unions spend this past election(and all others) supporting Dem candidates that were/are favorable to them. Labor unions work to increase their "profits" and maybe some for their members. Look at the difference in the "hourly wage cost" of auto companies.

Buying government officials by both side is wrong! The only way we have to stop it is to vote all the SOBs out!!!

Hypo go in to more detail on the Appollo Group. When I did a search I came up with Universty of Phoneix and other information for adult learning. Please point me to where I need to be to read about them.

Agreed.

It's just tough to do since the first amendment has been interpreted in a manner that makes it very difficult to control campaign advertising.

I don't think our current situation is what the framers of the Constitution had in mind.

I'm more comfortable with union influence than corporation influence, but it would be better if neither was allowed to shower politicians with money.

Hmmmm, I would have said the only way to stop it is to limit the power and control of the government in the first place.

corporations and unions are not people.. they are entities.. since when does an entity have the freedom of speech?

sure wish the democrats would quit bowing down to big corporations and stand up for the citizens..

A corporation is a legal entity separate from the persons who own it or the persons who manage or operate it.

Trade unions after their registration shall obtain the rights of legal entity.

Better look up Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad.

While some claim the precedent set by this case from the late 1800s has been misinterpreted, it basically gave personhood to corporations.

How about a limit on campaign spending? $5 per constituent - spend as you want to.
