Health Care Industry in Talks to Shape Policy

The problem with health care is not WHO is paying for it, but HOW MUCH has to be paid! Health care costs have been more than doubling inflation, and getting the government footing the bill means we've created another entitlement who's costs are guaranteed to rise exponentially every year, taking more and more tax dollars to sustain. Not only that, we'll be hiring the same people to manage our heath care as have mismanaged our retirement program!

HOW MUCH has to be paid

“Canada's healthcare spending was expected to reach $171.9 billion in 2008” this is for 30 + million Canadians and we have a lack of docter, nurses, hospitals closing and waiting list for everything including cancer treatment.

The US has 300+ million people, do the math

15.3% of the US population, or 45.7 million people don't have any kind of insurance- either private or government- and those people defaulting on their bills is the reason the cost of health care keeps growing- and in turn those that have it, have to keep paying more for health insurance....

A Catch-22, that will continue spiraling until everyone has health care insurance---which according to the AMA would in a few years actually bring bring down health care costs because of those folks having access to preventative medicine and early diagnosis and treatment of serious diseases.....

The World Health Organization (WHO), in 2000, ranked the U.S. health care system as the highest in cost, first in responsiveness, 37th in overall performance, and 72nd by overall level of health (among 191 member nations included in the study).

We're paying for people who live the American dream -- fast food, processed carbs, sweets, fats, and lots of TV.

When sitting in your car in the drive-thru lane, waiting for your order to come out the window, have you ever stopped to think exactly how many people eat fast food? How many restaurants do you pass on your way home? With the variety and convenience, restaurant franchising is a guaranteed and lucrative investment.

Did you know that in 2007 McDonald's had 390,000 employees? They also made over 22 million dollars that year. With 31,000 restaurants in almost 120 countries, no wonder they say "Billions served"!

Franchising is a nearly 125 billion dollar a year industry. While requiring a lot of hard work, the payoff can be outstanding. This is because of exactly how many people eat fast food.

So, how many people eat fast food? Over 50,000,000 people daily in the U.S. alone. That's a lot of burgers and fries! When you have to manage work, school, and soccer practice, fast food restaurants are more convenient than cooking at home. It's also an inexpensive way to feed the whole family. Plus, the choices are mind blowing!

KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN- For the chicken lovers in the family

MCDONALD'S, BURGER KING- For those who prefer burgers and fries

PIZZA HUT- For the Italian side

TACO BELL- When you're feeling a little south of the border

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. There is a fast food restaurant for just about any taste, so even the pickiest eaters can find somewhere even they can enjoy a fast, convenient meal. Americans will spend over 110 billion dollars this year on fast food, that's over a quarter of Americans. Most of them have even worked in a fast food establishment at some point in their lives.

Do away with fast food

Taken from a study on obese problem in the US.
How Influential Is A Teens Environment In Contributing To Them Being Overweight And Obese?

Teens in lower-income families are exposed to more fast food, junk food and other toxic environmental influences than those in higher income brackets.

Children are getting heavier because portions are huge; junk foods and fast foods are everywhere; and exercise has taken a back seat, replaced by sedentary pursuits such as computer games and watching TV.

Many middle schools and high schools offer more unhealthful foods and beverages than nutritious foods.

Food products account for 26% of TV ads seen by children ages 12-17. The majority of those ads are for fast food, sweets and beverages.

Teens are more likely to be overweight if they live near convenience stores and are less likely to be overweight if they live near supermarkets that offer a wide variety of healthful foods.

A higher percentage of restaurants in lower-income neighborhoods and high-minority urban communities serve fast foods than in higher-income neighborhoods.

Now if the biggest problem is in low income homes and welfare homes who will be paying their higher insurance rates and penlities you think they should pay? :?

We're paying for people who live the American dream -- fast food, processed carbs, sweets, fats, and lots of TV.

Better yet. Just make them go to work.

Liberals love tax and government control, how about a "lard-ass tax"? If you're more than 10% overweight, you pay 5% of your income - 20% overweight is 10%, etc..... Maybe we should outlaw donuts, ice cream, candy, pop, etc..... Clearly the answer is more government control of our daily lives.

Our "State" workers do pay a portion out of their pocket for their normally free health insurance if they are overweight.

Only problem with your plan is.......Democrats won't pay it because they don't pay now....

this will all be included in the Health care reform. If you don't pay taxes, you will still be covered for your unhealthy choices, by those who do work and pay taxes!

Do you realize how much beef consumption you're talking about doing away with? Or maybe you just don't care? :???:

Not to mention millions of jobs lost. Not just in the restaurant industry itself, but in agriculture, distribution, trucking and a host of other areas. Yeah let's outlaw fast food.

Better yet, let's just all stay home and live in a bubble. Too many risks out there in the real world. We can all just sit around and read our government issued manuals dictating how we should live our lives. Just think!! No more decisions to make and the stress that goes with it. My, won't that be wonderful!!

Slavery by government! Those that pay taxes are enslaved to pay for those that don't!

Not much different than working for housing and food supplied, nothing extra for extras. The only thing we're missing (for now anyway) is the whippings!

Would it be okay to make people exercise before they get a welfare check, dictate which edibles food stamps can buy, and charge a fee for excessive posting?

They already dictate which edibles food stamps can buy but not closely enough. Why should we pay first for people to eat unhealthy food and then for their resulting medical care?

welcome to universal health care

10. What foods are eligible for purchase with SNAP benefits?
Households CAN use SNAP benefits to buy:

Foods for the household to eat, such as:
-- breads and cereals
-- fruits and vegetables
-- meats, fish and poultry; and
-- dairy products
Seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat.

Households CANNOT use SNAP benefits to buy:

Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco
Any nonfood items, such as:
-- pet foods;
-- soaps, paper products; and
-- household supplies.
Vitamins and medicines.
Food that will be eaten in the store.
Hot foods
We shouldn't pay for unhealthy food or medical care IMO.
"Such as" doesn't mean squat. There's a reason many poor people are obese.
